Sidney Street is a major street in central Cambridge, England. [1] [2] It runs between Bridge Street at the junction with Jesus Lane to the northwest and St Andrew's Street at the junction with Hobson Street to the southeast.
On the northeastern side of the street is the University of Cambridge college Sidney Sussex College. [3] Opposite the college, Green Street, another shopping street, leads off to the west. To the southeast of the college is Sussex Street. On the corner is the tall and distinctive Montagu House, [4] part of Sidney Sussex College.
Holy Trinity Church is on the southwestern side, on the southern corner with Market Street. [5]
The street has a number of shops, especially on the southwestern side. The buildings owned by Sidney Sussex, Gonville and Caius, and St John's colleges, for example Trinity College owns the building that houses the J Sainsbury food store, the main central Cambridge supermarket. [6] Other shops include Boots and Marks & Spencer.
The Lloyds Bank building was designed by the Victorian architect Alfred Waterhouse and built 1890–93. [7] Originally the building was part of Fosters' Bank and the name still exists over the doorway.
Sidney Sussex College is a constituent college of the University of Cambridge in England. The College was founded in 1596 under the terms of the will of Frances Sidney, Countess of Sussex (1531–1589), wife of Thomas Radclyffe, 3rd Earl of Sussex, and named after its foundress. It was from its inception an avowedly Protestant foundation; "some good and godlie moniment for the mainteynance of good learninge". In her will, Lady Frances Sidney left the sum of £5,000 together with some plate to found a new College at Cambridge University "to be called the Lady Frances Sidney Sussex College". Her executors Sir John Harington and Henry Grey, 6th Earl of Kent, supervised by Archbishop John Whitgift, founded the College seven years after her death.
Borough High Street is a road in Southwark, London, running south-west from London Bridge, forming part of the A3 route which runs from London to Portsmouth, on the south coast of England.

To the north is Victoria Avenue between Jesus Green to the west and Midsummer Common to the east. Also to the north near the western end is Park Street, location of the ADC Theatre. To the south is Short Street, quickly leading into Emmanuel Road past Christ's Pieces.

Bridge Street is a historic street in the north of central Cambridge, England. It runs between Magdalene Street at the junction with Thompson's Lane to the northwest and Sidney Street at the junction with Jesus Lane to the southeast. Bridge Street used to continue over the Great Bridge on the River Cam, hence the name, but this part is now known as Magdalene Street after Magdalene College, which fronts onto the street.

Guildhall Street is a street in central Cambridge, England. To the north is the southeast corner of Market Hill at the junction with the pedestrianised shopping street Petty Cury. To the south it continues as Guildhall Place, a cul-de-sac, at the junction with Wheeler Street, close to the northern end of Corn Exchange Street.
Green Street is a street known for its shops and restaurants in central Cambridge, England. It runs between St John's Street and Trinity Street at the western end and Sidney Street at the eastern end. Opposite the west end is Trinity College and opposite the east end is Sidney Sussex College. The street is probably named after the owner of the land when the first houses were built on the street.

At the southwest end is the junction of Regent Street and Hills Road, where the road continues as Lensfield Road. Station Road is a road in southeast Cambridge, England. It leads from a junction with traffic lights on Hills Road (A1307) to the Cambridge railway station. At the western end of Station Road on the opposite side of Hills Road is the Cambridge University Botanic Garden.
John Howell & Son, known as John Howell, was the leading building and engineering company in Hastings, Sussex in the 1860s. Its founder, John Howell Senior (ca.1825−1893) engineered churches and other public buildings in the area to the designs of innovative architects, including Holy Trinity Church in 1860 to the design of Samuel Sanders Teulon, and St Johns Church, Hollington in 1865−1868 for Edward Alexander Wyon. John Howell Junior (1851−1903) constructed the old Gothic Revival Hastings Grammar School building to the design of Jeffery and Skiller in 1883. Howell Senior was a campaigner on behalf of the Liberal Party and held a prominent political position in the town from the 1860s to the 1880s. He came to Hastings as a fatherless boy, but was the Mayor of Hastings by 1878.
