Sierra is a Canadian progressive metal band formed in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario. Their music fuses elements of progressive rock, heavy metal, and instrumental music. Sierra have been touring since 2012, opening for bands such as Weedeater, The Obsessed, Kylesa, Unsane, and Karma to Burn. [1] [2] [3]
The band was formed by Jason Taylor and Robbie Carvalho who have been playing together since they were kids. They met after Jason posted an ad in a music store looking for young musicians into 1970s progressive rock. Jason was 15 and Robbie was 12 at the time.
Their first album, Pslip, was the first release on the Kylesa operated record label Retro Futurist Records. [4] The album, as with all of their albums since, was recorded at The Jam Room Studios in North Carolina, by Phillip Cope of Kylesa.
The band signed to Tone Deaf Touring after the release of Pslip and have been on the road consistently since. Their first tour was across North America with Kylesa and Pinkish Black, [5] shortly followed by a European tour with Kylesa and label mates Jagged Vision. They have since been on the road with Weedeater, 1000mods, the Obsessed and Wretch. [6] [7]
In 2016 they recorded the 'EP 72, a concept album based on a murder that took place in their hometown in 1972. It is written from the point of view of the 16-year-old boy who was wrongfully accused of the murder. They played the piece in its entirety at Starlight Social Club in Waterloo, steps away from where the crime scene began. [8] [9]
In 2017 Sierra embarked on their first headlining North American tour. Joining them was Witches of God from Los Angeles. Jason played rhythm guitar and Robbie played drums for them on that tour. The tour kicked off at the Maryland Doomfest. [10]
Their most recent work, The Mirror, was self-released and is available on their Bandcamp page. Steve Howe from Outlaws of the Sun wrote, "You can still feel and hear the sounds from their earlier releases but this album definitely sees Sierra playing a more confident 70s Progressive and Hard Rock sound." The Obsessed is an American heavy metal band from Potomac, Maryland, led by Scott "Wino" Weinrich. The band combines elements of doom metal, stoner rock, and punk rock. Formed in 1980, they recorded a few demos and played a handful of live shows until they first split up in 1986 when Weinrich joined as lead vocalist for Saint Vitus, but reformed four years later. After releasing three albums, the Obsessed broke up for a second time in 1995. After briefly reuniting for some shows in 2012 and 2013, the Obsessed announced their third reunion in March 2016.
Econoline Crush is a Canadian rock band from Vancouver, British Columbia, formed in 1992. They have released five studio albums and are best known for their charting singles such as "You Don't Know What It's Like", "Home", "Surefire ", "All That You Are (X3)", "Make It Right", and "Dirty". They achieved platinum status with the 1997 album The Devil You Know and also received two Juno nominations, in 1995 and 1998.
Circle Takes the Square is an American screamo band from Savannah, Georgia. It is composed of founding members Drew Speziale and Kathleen Stubelek, as well as Caleb Collins. Their debut release was a 6-track self-titled EP released in 2001, followed by a 7" split with Pg. 99 in 2002. In 2004, they released their debut studio album As the Roots Undo on Robotic Empire, which released the CD, and HyperRealist Records, which released the gatefold LP. The album gained them considerable acclaim and the band toured extensively to promote it during the year. This included a six-week east coast tour that took the band into Canada for the first time, supported by Arkata and Raise Them And Eat Them. The band's sophomore album, Decompositions: Volume Number One, was released after an 8-year silence on December 21, 2012, as a digital download; physical editions of the album were released in April 2013.
Cathedral were a doom metal band from Coventry, England. The group gained attention upon release of its debut album, Forest of Equilibrium (1991), which is considered a classic of the genre. However, the band's sound evolved quickly and began to adopt characteristics of 1970s metal, hard rock and progressive rock. After releasing ten full-length albums and touring extensively for over two decades, Cathedral broke up after the release of The Last Spire in 2013.
Nicholas D'Virgilio, often abbreviated and referred to as NDV, is an American drummer, singer and guitarist, best known as a member of the progressive rock band Spock's Beard. He was also one of two drummers chosen to replace Phil Collins in Genesis on the Calling All Stations album. He has also done session work with many artists including Tears for Fears and Mystery, and is an official member of Big Big Train.
Autolux is an American alternative rock band consisting of Eugene Goreshter, Greg Edwards and Carla Azar. The trio formed in 2001 and have released three full-length albums, Future Perfect (2004), Transit Transit (2010) and Pussy's Dead (2016). Their sound draws from post-punk, electronic music, krautrock and shoegaze.
A Wilhelm Scream is a melodic hardcore band from New Bedford, Massachusetts formed in 2003. Their music has been compared to Strung Out, Hot Water Music, Propagandhi, and Strike Anywhere as the band's similar artists. Their name is a reference to the Wilhelm scream, a famous stock sound effect mainly used in films. The band previously went by the names Koen, Adam's Crack, and Smackin' Isaiah, though the last was the only name to be used in any major releases. "The reason for the name changes from Koen to Smackin' Isaiah, then to A Wilhelm Scream was really a matter of them adding new members, and progressing/maturing as a band".
Envy on the Coast are a post-hardcore band from Long Island, New York. They released their second full length, Lowcountry, in March 2010.
Karma to Burn, commonly abbreviated as K2B, is a desert rock/stoner rock band from Morgantown, West Virginia. The band are noted for their uncompromising, mostly instrumental sound.

Kylesa is an American heavy metal band that was formed in Savannah, Georgia. Their music incorporates experimentalism with heavy riffs, drop-tuned guitars and elements of psychedelic rock. The group was established in 2001 by the former members of Damad, with the addition of guitar player Laura Pleasants who is from North Carolina. The band has since undergone line up changes; the remaining original members are Phillip Cope and Laura Pleasants. In 2006, the band added two drummers. Eric Hernandez joined in 2008 to replace Porter. The dual drum tracks are often panned strongly to the right and left.

Lazer/Wulf is an American progressive metal trio formed in Athens, Georgia, United States. The band's music is noted for being mostly instrumental, while combining the avant-garde elements of progressive rock and jazz with heavy metal and math rock. They are currently located in Atlanta, Georgia.
