Simone Plourde (born 8 August 2000) is a Canadian middle distance runner. [1]

Early life

From Montreal, she attended college at BYU before transferring to the University of Utah. Initially, her main sporting interests were in skiing and soccer. [2] Plourde started to train seriously in athletics in 2018. [3]

Career

Competing for the University of Utah, [4] Plourde won the 1500m at the PAC-12 Championships in May 2023, breaking Shelby Houlihan’s conference record by close to two seconds. [5] She had a seventh-place finish at the 2023 NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas in June 2023. [3]

She set a Quebec provincial record as she ran a personal best over 1500m at La Classique d’athlétisme de Montréal on June 29, 2023. She turned professional in the second half of 2023, joining the Nike Union Athletics Club in Oregon. [6] She finished second in the 1500 metres at the Canadian Track and Field Championships in July 2023. [7] She was selected for the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest in August 2023 where she finished tenth in her heat. [8] [9]

In February 2024 she ran a huge personal best in the Wanamaker Mile at the Millrose Games in New York, recording 4:24.67, an improvement of more than 17 seconds. This placed her third all-time among Canadian women, behind only Gabriela DeBues-Stafford and her sister, Lucia Stafford. [9] She was selected for the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow as part of the Canadian team, to compete in the 1500 metres. [10]

Filip Mangen Ingebrigtsen is a Norwegian middle-distance runner who represents Sandnes Idrettslag. In 2016, Ingebrigtsen became European Champion at 1500 meters during the European Championships in Amsterdam, and took bronze over the same distance at the World Championships in 2017 in London. He previously held the Norwegian 1500m record with the time 3:30.01, set at a Diamond League meet in Monaco on 20 July 2018. At the 2019 London Diamond League Ingebrigtsen finished second to Samuel Tefera in the mile. With a time of 3:49.60 Ingebrigtsen ran a national record and new personal best.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen is a Norwegian middle- and long-distance runner. Ingebrigtsen is the current world record holder for the indoor 1500 metres and the 2000 metres, and holds the world best time over the two mile distance. Ingebrigtsen is a two-time World champion, winning gold medals in the 5000 metres in 2022 and 2023 and a four-time European champion, winning gold medals in the 1500 m and 5000 m in 2018 and 2022. He also won a gold medal in the 1500 m at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, setting an Olympic and European record. In addition to the 1500 m, Ingebrigtsen holds European records in the mile and 5000 m, and is one of only three men to run a sub-3:30 1500 m, sub-7:30 3000 m and a sub-12:50 5000 m.
