The 20th World Athletics Indoor Championships was re-scheduled to be held from 21 to 23 March 2025 in Nanjing, People's Republic of China at the newly built Nanjing's Cube gymnasium in the Nanjing Youth Olympic Sports Park. [1] [2] This would be the city's first hosting of the event although it staged the 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games.

Nanjing was originally due to host an edition of the World Athletics Indoor Championships in 2020, then in 2021, and then again in 2023, with all these dates having to be postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic regulations in China. [3] [4] The 2022 edition took place in Belgrade, Serbia and the 2024 edition in Glasgow, United Kingdom.

Bidding process

On 26 November 2017, delegations from the three candidate cities made their presentations at the 212th IAAF Council Meeting: Nanjing, Serbia's capital Belgrade and Toruń, Poland. Nanjing won the bid for the 2020 World Athletics Indoor Championships. [5]

Venue

The facility, a brand new purpose-built gymnasium at the Nanjing Youth Olympic Sports Park known as Nanjing's Cube will be the centrepiece of the event. Construction started in September 2017 and is due to be completed in time for the event. The venue for track and field and swimming are located in Block A of the park and to the east is the Yangtze River complex. It will provide catering and hotels as well as security work for the event. Marvin Bracy-Williams is an American sprinter, and a former American football wide receiver. He played college football for the Florida State Seminoles, and quit just prior to their 2013 national championship season to pursue a professional career in track. He holds personal bests of 9.85s in the 100 m and 6.44 s in the 60 m, which he set in 2022 at the 2022 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Belgrade, Serbia. He won three straight U.S. National Championships at 60 meters in 2014–16. In July 2016, Bracy came in third in the 100 meters at the U.S. Olympic Trials qualifying for the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Liemarvin Bonevacia is a Dutch sprinter specialising in the 400 metres. The 2025 World Athletics Championships will be the twentieth edition of the World Athletics Championships, and are scheduled to be held from 13 to 21 September 2025 in Tokyo, Japan. The championships will use the National Stadium, rebuilt for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

In 2020, the foremost competitions in the sport of athletics were the 2020 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo, the 2020 World Athletics Indoor Championships held in Nanjing, China and the 2020 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships held in Gdynia, Poland. All three were rescheduled due to the COVID-19 pandemicm with the 2020 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships being the only event still held in 2020.

Jessica Schilder is a Dutch track and field athlete competing in shot put. Her outdoors personal best is 20.24 m, which is a Dutch record, and her indoors personal best is 19.48 m. She is two-time bronze medalist at the world championships and a one-time gold medalist at the European championships (outdoor).

The 2023 USA Indoor Track and Field Championships were held at Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Organized by USA Track and Field (USATF), the three-day competition took place from February 16 to February 18 and served as the national championships in track and field for the United States.
