The 2014 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships took place on March 29, 2014. The races were held in Copenhagen, Denmark. The essentially flat one-loop course was beginning and ending in the city centre by Christiansborg Castle. [1] Detailed reports on the event and an appraisal of the results were given both for the men's race [2] [3] and for the women's race. [4] [5]

The 2015 IAAF World Cross Country Championships was the 41st edition of the global championships in cross country running, organised by the International Association of Athletics Federations. It was held in Guiyang, China on 28 March. It was the first time that the event was held in China, and the third occasion it took place in Asia. Senior and junior races were held for men and women, with the four races having both a team and individual element.

Simon Cheprot is a Kenyan long-distance runner who competes mainly in road running events. He has twice represented Kenya at the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships and won a team gold medal in 2016. His half marathon personal best is 59:20 minutes, set in 2013, which ranks him in the top 40 of all time.

In 2016, the foremost athletics events will be staged at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. The two other major global level competitions in 2016 are the World Indoor Championships and World Half Marathon Championships.
