The 2014 Asian Indoor Athletics Championships was the sixth edition of the international indoor athletics event between Asian nations. It took place at the Vocational and Technical College Athletics Hall in Hangzhou, China, between 15 and 16 February. [1] The city was confirmed as the host in September 2013 at the 77th Council Meeting of the Asian Athletics Association. [2] This was the second time the city held the event, successively following on from the 2012 Championships. [3] A total of 28 nations were represented at the tournament comprising 26 track and field events. [4]
Qatar won the most gold medals – its contingent of African-born athletes won four of the five men's running events. Its sole native medallist, Mutaz Essa Barshim, gave one of the best performances of the meet with 2.36 m in the men's high jump (one centimetre short of his Asian record) to take his third consecutive title. The host nation China won the most medals overall, with four golds in a haul of twenty. Most of China's medals came from the field events, where it had at least one medallist in each event on the men's and women's sides. Kazakhstan ranked a clear third with four champions and twelve medals in total. From the fifteen nations at reached the medal table, Uzbekistan, Kuwait, Japan and Iran were others that frequently featured on the podium. [4]
Four championship records were improved during the course of the two-day competition. Kazakhstan's men's 4×400 m relay team knocked a second off Saudi Arabia's mark from 2008. Maryam Jamal's time in the women's 3000 metres was a six-second improvement from the previous record by compatriot Shitaye Eshete. China's Wu Shuijiao improved her own record from 2012 with a run of 8.02 seconds in the 60 metres hurdles, which was also a Chinese indoor record. Svetlana Radzivil raised the women's high jump best to 1.96 m, erasing Marina Aitova's height of 1.93 m that had stood since 2006. [5]
Four athletes successfully defended their titles from 2012: Dmitriy Karpov in the men's heptathlon, Maryam Tousi in the women's 400 metres, Mutaz Essa Barshim in the men's high jump, and Wu Shuijiao in the women's 60 m hurdles. Mohamad Al-Garni and Maryam Jamal were the only two competitors who won two individual golds, each of them completing a 1500/3000 metres double. Betlhem Desalegn was the women's runner-up in both those events, and sprinter Maryam Tousi was the only other runner to take multiple individual medals.

Bohdan Viktorovych Bondarenko is a Ukrainian high jumper. He is the 2013 World champion, 2014 European champion, and 2016 Olympic bronze medalist.
The 2010 Asian Indoor Athletics Championships, also known as the IV Asian Indoor Athletics Championships, was an international indoor athletics event took place in Tehran, Iran, between 24 and 26 February. This was the second edition to be hosted in the country as the first championships was also held at the Aftab Enghelab Complex in Tehran. A total of 23 nations sent athletes to compete at the championships, which featured 26 track and field events.
Mutaz Essa Barshim is a Qatari track and field athlete who competes in the high jump and is the current Olympic Champion (2020). He is also the current World Champion and second best jumper of all-time with a personal best of 2.43. He won gold at the 2017 World Championships in London and at the 2019 World Championships in Doha. At the Olympics, Barshim won silver at the London 2012 Summer Olympics, silver at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio and shared gold at the 2020 Summer Olympics Tokyo. He was the Asian Indoor and World Junior champion in 2010, and won the high jump gold medals at the 2011 Asian Athletics Championships and 2011 Military World Games. He holds the Asian record in high jump. In 2021, his bronze in the 2012 Summer Olympics was promoted to silver due to the disqualification of the original gold medalist.
The 2010 Asian Junior Athletics Championships was the 14th edition of the international athletics competition for Asian under-20 athletes, organised by the Asian Athletics Association. It took place from 1 to 4 July 2010 at the My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi – the first time the competition was held in Vietnam. A total of 44 events were contested, which were divided equally between male and female athletes. Three championship records were improved over the course of the four-day competition and numerous national junior records were also bettered. The competition, including its opening and closing ceremonies, was broadcast live on Vietnamese carrier VTV3.

Genzeb Shumi Regasa is an Ethiopian-born middle distance runner who competes internationally for Bahrain. She won the 1500 metres gold medal at the Asian Athletics Championships in 2011 and the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships in 2012. Her personal bests are 2:01.18 minutes for the 800 metres and 4:05.16 minutes for the 1500 m.

The 2012 Asian Junior Athletics Championships was the 15th edition of the international athletics competition for Asian under-20 athletes, organised by the Asian Athletics Association. It took place from 9 to 12 June at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka – the same venue hosted the 2002 Asian Athletics Championships. Thirty-four nations took part in the event and over five hundred athletes participated. A total of 44 events were contested, with the events being evenly split between the genders.
The 2013 Asian Athletics Championships were the 20th edition of the biennial athletics competition between Asian nations. It was held at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Balewadi, Pune, India between 3–7 July. Around 522 athletes from 42 nations competed at the event. It was the first time since 1989 that India had hosted the championships.

The men's high jump competition at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil was held at the Olympic Stadium between 14–16 August. Forty-four athletes from 28 nations competed. The event was won by Derek Drouin of Canada, the nation's first victory in the men's high jump since 1932. Drouin was the ninth man to win multiple medals in the high jump, after his 2012 bronze. Mutaz Essa Barshim, who had tied Drouin for bronze in 2012, was the tenth multiple medalist in the event. Barshim's silver was Qatar's fifth Olympic medal in any event, and the first better than bronze. Bohdan Bondarenko took bronze, Ukraine's first medal in the men's high jump.
Takashi Etō is a Japanese track and field athlete who competes in the high jump. His personal best is 2.30 m, set in 2014. He won the gold medal in the event at the Asian Athletics Championships in 2015. He represented Japan at the 2014 Asian Games and was national champion that year.
The 2016 Asian Indoor Athletics Championships was the seventh edition of the international indoor athletics event between Asian nations. It took place at the Aspire Dome in Doha, Qatar, between 19 and 21 February.
The 2010 Arab Junior Athletics Championships was the fourteenth edition of the international athletics competition for under-20 athletes from Arab countries. It took place between 5–8 May at Cairo Military Academy Stadium in Cairo, Egypt. It was the fourth time that the event was held in the Egyptian capital. A total of 44 athletics events were contested, 22 for men and 22 for women.
