SMC offers various extracurricular activities, including a school newspaper and a debate club.
School paper
The school newspaper, Palet, was awarded the title of "Best School Paper of the Netherlands" in both 2002 and 2003. Additionally, it received the "Best School Paper Design" award in 2001 and 2006 during the Dutch National School Paper Day. In 2009, the paper's editors attended this event, where Yvonne Doornduyn, a political journalist and jury member, remarked: "Palet has a good combination of strong layout and quality content."
Palet has approximately 20 editorial members, including three staff members. The editorial team meets at least once a week to discuss layout, design, content, and related topics. The newspaper is published three to five times a year and covers a range of subjects, such as discrimination, politics, and current events, as well as lighter topics like trends, school information, and leisure activities.
SMC Videoclub
SMC also has its own AV Club, which consists of 10 members, including one staff member. The club creates its own scripts and films them professionally using high-quality equipment. They also maintain their own website. However, the club's activities have been suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Cooking club
Every Monday afternoon, a group of students would gather to cook and eat together, supervised by a staff member. However, this activity has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Debate club
Students have the opportunity to develop their debating skills during Dutch class. The debate club, however, is primarily intended for upper-level students (class 4 and above), who can participate in national debating competitions. Each year, several students compete in these events, with some even winning awards. As of 2012, the debate club is managed by students.

Education in the Netherlands is characterized by division: education is oriented toward the needs and background of the pupil. Twelfth grade is the twelfth and final year of formal or compulsory education. It is typically the final year of secondary school and K–12 in most parts of the world. Students in twelfth grade are usually 17–18 years old. Some countries have a thirteenth grade, while other countries do not have a 12th grade/year at all.
Breda is a city and municipality in the southern part of the Netherlands, located in the province of North Brabant. The name derived from brede Aa and refers to the confluence of the rivers Mark and Aa. Breda has 185,072 inhabitants on 13 September 2022 and is part of the Brabantse Stedenrij; it is the ninth largest city/municipality in the country, and the third largest in North Brabant after Eindhoven and Tilburg. It is equidistant from Rotterdam and Antwerp.
Voorbereidend wetenschappelijk onderwijs, also often referred to as Voortgezet Wetenschappelijk Onderwijs is the highest variant in the secondary educational system of the Netherlands, attended by approximately a fifth of all Dutch high school students. After leaving primary or elementary school students are enrolled in different types of secondary schools, according to their academic ability. The course is a six-year course and successful completion allows the candidate admission to Dutch universities. The VWO is therefore a matriculation exam.
Koning Willem II College is a school in Tilburg in the Netherlands. It was established in 1866 and is named after King Willem II. The school was founded in the former royal palace in Tilburg, the present City Hall, of which the construction was commissioned by King William II himself. In 1934 the school moved from the former palace to the new location a new and much bigger building at the Ringbaan Oost in Tilburg. In 1971 the school moved to its present location on the Tatraweg.
The Amstellyceum was a secondary school in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. It got cancelled and the Metis Montessori Lyceum is established there. The school was named after the river Amstel. It teaches, vmbo-tl, havo, and vwo. In 2005, it had 480 students.
The Hermann Wesselink College is a secondary school in Amstelveen, The Netherlands the hood of sara crijns.
International School Groningen (ISG) is an International School situated in Haren, Groningen, in the north of the Netherlands. The school consists of approximately 200 students from various countries. During their first five years, the students follow the IB Middle Years Programme or IBMYP and during their last two years they follow the IB Diploma Programme or IBDP.
Pre-vocational secondary education is a school track in the Netherlands. It lasts four years, from the age of twelve to sixteen. It combines vocational training with theoretical education in languages, mathematics, history, arts, and sciences. Sixty percent of students nationally are enrolled in VMBO. VMBO has five different levels; in each a different mix of practical vocational training and theoretical education is combined:
H.N. Werkman College is a Dutch High School in the city of Groningen. The school is named after the Dutch artist, typographer and printer Hendrik Nicolaas Werkman. The school is divided over four buildings: Stadslyceum, Dalton, Kluiverboom and Vinkenstraat. In 2006 the school had 1352 students and 130 employees. The current rector of the H.N. Werkmancollege is C. Japenga.
Colegio Arubano is a secondary school in Aruba that serves students in grades seven through twelve from one of its two campuses in either the capital city of Oranjestad or the southern community of Sint Nicolaas. The two campuses have been separated now, and the school in Sint Nicolaas has become a different school with the new name Colegio Nigel Matthew.
The Bataafs Lyceum is a public high school in Hengelo, Netherlands. The Bataafs Lyceum is part of a public school division called the Openbare Scholengemeenschap Hengelo and offers HAVO and VWO level education.
The Sondervick College is a Dutch catholic secondary school located in the village Veldhoven. It provides all three levels of Dutch secondary education: VMBO, HAVO, VWO.
St Stanislas College is a conglomerate of private Catholic secondary schools located in Delft, Pijnacker, and Rijswijk, in the province of South Holland, in the Netherlands.
Lyceum Schöndeln is a secondary school in Roermond, Netherlands. It combines a havo, an atheneum and a gymnasium and incorporates specialisations in both the arts (cultuurprofielschool) and the exact sciences (technasium). The school was formed in 2007 from the merger of the Stedelijk Lyceum and the Bisschoppelijk College Schöndeln.
The Ashram College is a Dutch high school located in Alphen aan den Rijn and Nieuwkoop. It was established in 1929. The school offers VWO excluding or including the classical languages Latin and Greek, HAVO and VMBO-T. Ashram College is a Catholic school.
The Eindexamen or centraal examen (CE) is the matriculation exam in the Netherlands, which takes place in a student's final year of high school education. The exam is regulated by the Dutch Secondary Education Act and the Decree on Central Examination of Secondary Education.
Bonaventura College is a Catholic secondary school in Leiden, Netherlands. The school offers education in gymnasium, atheneum, HAVO, and VMBO. It has three branches in Leiden. Together with Visser 't Hooft Lyceum, it is part of the Leiden Confessional Education Foundation. It was preceded by the Jesuit St. Willibrord College of 1831 which moved to The Hague in 1927, leading to the founding in Leiden of St. Bonaventure by the Franciscans.
Within the Dutch education system, the brugklas is the first year in which a pupil enters who goes from primary school to secondary school. In order to make the transition from primary to secondary education as smooth as possible, the first year often gives a lot of explanation about how to learn and study, for example in a study lesson.
