Sitti Djalia Turabin Hataman (born 26 November 1977) is a Filipina politician serving as the mayor of Isabela,Basilan since 2019. [2] [3] She previously served as the Party-list Representative of Anak Mindanao and was the executive director of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos. [4]
Sitti is the wife of politician Mujiv Hataman.
Sitti served as director (or Secretary General) of the Moro Human Rights Center,as of at least 2002, [5] and President of Pinay Kilos (PINK),since at least 2007. [6] She has focused advocacy on the plight of families in conflict areas of Sulu and Basilan in Mindanao. In 2017 she,herself,left congress. [7]

The 2007 Batasang Pambansa bombing occurred on the night of November 13,2007 at the Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City,Philippines—the seat of the country's House of Representatives. As representatives Wahab Akbar,Luzviminda Ilagan (Gabriela),and Pryde Henry Teves were exiting the south wing of the building after a session,explosives in a nearby parked motorcycle were detonated. Akbar and a staffer of Ilagan were killed in the blast. Ilagan and Teves were injured,while four injured staffers later succumbed to their injuries.
Ustadz Wahab M. Akbar was a Filipino politician who served three terms as governor of Basilan,during which time he was known for his "eye for an eye,tooth for a tooth" policy for dealing with kidnappers and terrorists in the province. He was later elected as congressman for the lone district of Basilan in the House of Representatives,but was one of 4 people killed in a bomb attack at the Batasang Pambansa. Police publicly suspected the attack was directed at him by political opponents.

The 58 victims were on their way to file a certificate of candidacy for Esmael Mangudadatu,vice mayor of Buluan,when they were kidnapped and later killed. Mangudadatu was challenging Datu Unsay mayor Andal Ampatuan Jr.,son of the incumbent Maguindanao governor Andal Ampatuan Sr. and member of one of Mindanao's leading Muslim political clans,in the forthcoming Maguindanao gubernatorial election,part of the national elections in 2010. The people killed included Mangudadatu's wife,his two sisters,journalists,lawyers,aides,and motorists who were witnesses or were mistakenly identified as part of the convoy.
Hadjiman Sabbihi Hataman Saliman,also known as Jim Hataman Saliman or Jim Saliman is a Filipino politician serving as the governor of Basilan since 2016. He previously served as the representative of Basilan's lone district from 2010 to 2016. Despite his nickname,he should not be confused with Benjamin Hataman—his cousin—who was arrested on murder charges for the assassination of Wahab Akbar in 2007. The Zamboanga City crisis or Zamboanga Siege was an armed conflict in Zamboanga City,Philippines between the government forces of the Philippines and Moro rebels from the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) that began on September 9,2013 and ended twenty days later on September 28. The conflict began when MNLF rebels,under the command of Nur Misuari,attempted to occupy several coastal communities in Zamboanga City in protest of the Philippine government's failure to implement the 1996 final peace agreement with the MNLF.

Basilan's at-large congressional district refers to the lone congressional district of the Philippines in the province of Basilan. The province has been represented in the country's national legislatures since 1984. It first elected a representative provincewide at-large during the 1984 Philippine parliamentary election following the restoration of provincial and city district representation in the Batasang Pambansa where Basilan had previously been included in the regionwide representation of Western Mindanao for the interim parliament. The province,created by the 1973 separation from Zamboanga del Sur of the entire island with its two municipal districts and the municipality of Isabela outside its poblacion which was earlier organized as the City of Basilan separated from Zamboanga City,was formerly represented as part of Zamboanga del Sur's,Zamboanga's and Department of Mindanao and Sulu's at-large representations in earlier legislatures. Since the 1987 restoration of Congress following the ratification of a new constitution,Basilan has been entitled to one member in the House of Representatives. On November 8,2022,the Philippine Army and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) engaged in a gunfight in Ungkaya Pukan,Basilan,while the army was conducting clearing operations on "lawless elements" allegedly taking refuge in the territory controlled by the MILF. Fighting between the two sides continued until November 10,2022 when a ceasefire between two sides were signed.
