Sixten Sild (born 19 June 1964, in Tartu) is an Estonian orienteering competitor, bronze medallist for the Soviet Union in the world championships, and later competing for Estonia.
He received a bronze medal in the classic course at the World Orienteering Championships in Mariánské Lázně in 1991. [1] He finished 4th in the relay in 1989, and 5th in 1991 with the Soviet team.
Sild's best overall performance in the Orienteering World Cup was finishing 8th in 1996. Other World Cup overall results: 1990: 16th; 1992: 12th; 1994: 20th; 1998: 24th. [2]
He is married to Latvian orienteer Sarmite Sild and his sons Timo Sild and Lauri Sild are also active orienteers and compete at an international level.
Pasi Ikonen was a Finnish orienteering competitor, winner of the middle distance at the 2001 World Orienteering Championships. His other achievements include two individual silver medals at the world championships, and medals at the World Games and the European championships.
Håvard Tveite was a Norwegian orienteering competitor. He was Relay World Champion from 1987 and 1989, and has a silver medal from 1991 and a bronze medal from 1997. He also obtained bronze in the individual course at the 1989 World Orienteering Championships.
Daniel Hubmann is a Swiss orienteering competitor. Hubmann is the most successful male Swiss orienteer of all time, with 9 Gold medals at the World Orienteering Championships. In 2023, with his victory in the relay at the 2023 World Orienteering Championships, Hubmann became the oldest competitor to win a gold medal at the World Orienteering Championships, at the age of 40 years and 61 days. Hubmann is currently the third most successful male orienteer of all time, behind Thierry Gueorgiou and Olav Lundanes, and has won more medals in total than any other male orienteer.
Chris Terkelsen is a Danish orienteering competitor and World champion. He won a gold medal in the 1997 World Orienteering Championships in Grimstad with the Danish Relay team. He received a silver medal in the 2005 World Orienteering Championships in Aichi. He won the overall World Cup in 1998, and received a silver medal in the 2004 European Championships with the Danish relay team. Terkelsen won the 1997, 1998 and 2000 editions of the Jukola relay.
Magne Dæhli is a Norwegian orienteering competitor, ski-orienteer, and cross-country skier. His achievements include five medals in the relay at the World Orienteering Championships, of which three are gold medals. His best individual performances include a silver medal in the long distance from the European Orienteering Championships, and a bronze medal in the middle distance from the 2019 World Orienteering Championships.
Øystein Kvaal Østerbø is a Norwegian orienteering and ski-orienteering competitor. He finished overall third in the Orienteering World Cup in 2004, and won a silver medal in the relay in the 2004 World Ski Orienteering Championships. He has competed in all fifteen World Orienteering Championships since his debut in 2004 until 2018, obtaining his first two medals in Inverness in 2015; in the relay and mixed sprint relay, respectively. His best individual achievements are fourth places in the sprint in 2005 and 2010.
Ada Kuchařová is a Czech orienteering competitor. She received three silver medals and two bronze medals at the 1983, 1987, 1989 and 1991 World Orienteering Championships.
Mika Kuisma was a Finnish orienteering competitor. He died in a car crash.
Katarina Smith is a former Swedish, later Canadian orienteering competitor. She received a silver medal for Sweden on the relay at the 2001 World Orienteering Championships in Tampere, and a bronze medal in 1999.
Petra Novotná is a Czech orienteering competitor. At the 1989 World Orienteering Championships in Skövde, she won a silver medal in the relay with the Czechoslovak team. She received a bronze medal in the relay event at the 1993 World Orienteering Championships, together with Maria Honzová, Marcela Kubatková and Jana Cieslarová. In the 1995 World championships, she again received a bronze medal in relay, with the same Czech team.
Eveli Saue is an Estonian orienteering competitor and retired biathlete. She is world champion in the combined sport biathlon orienteering.
Erik Rost is a Swedish ski-orienteering competitor, winner of the overall world cup, and junior world champion.
Søren Bobach is a Danish orienteering competitor, and world champion at both junior and senior level. He runs for OK Pan Århus.
Timo Sild is an Estonian orienteering competitor and junior world champion.
Markus Puusepp is a former Estonian orienteering competitor and junior world champion.
François Gonon is a French orienteering competitor. He has received gold and silver medals with the French relay team in both world championships and European championships. He currently competes for the French orienteering club O'JURA and for the Swedish orienteering club IFK Göteborg.
Ivan Sirakov is a Bulgarian orienteering competitor from Veliko Tarnovo, who has competed for Bulgaria at two World Orienteering Championships, in 2007 and in 2008. He earned a bronze medal at the Junior World Orienteering Championships.
