Skratch 'N Sniff is a nationally syndicated American radio program. Hosted by radio imaging producer Malcolm Ryker and DJ Mike Czech with Jen Wyatt on the Rock News Updates. The weekly show mixes rock and hip-hop music for affiliates across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
The show first began on March 9, 2003 at San Diego rock station XETRA-FM (91.1 FM, "91X"). Rock-oriented Ryker had contacted hip-hop DJ Mike Czech, then at San Diego pop station XHITZ-FM (90.3 FM, "Z90"), with the idea of combining their respective formats in a blended mashup show. By 2007, the show was airing on nearly 30 rock alternative rock and even a few Rock leaning Contemporary hits radio stations; Westwood One, the radio network acquired by Dial Global, began syndication of Skratch 'N Sniff that same year. In 2008, the show expanded from one to two hours in most markets. Compass Media Networks took over syndication of Skratch 'N Sniff in 2012. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]
Today the show serves nearly 60 affiliates, including stations in Washington, D.C. (WWDC (FM)), Detroit, Atlanta's 105.7 Saturday nights and Tampa. In recent years, Skratch 'N Sniff has also offered limited content to non-market affiliates from the show's annual Halloween special. [6] [7] [8] [9]
Barret Eugene Hansen, known professionally as Dr. Demento, is an American radio broadcaster and record collector specializing in novelty songs, comedy, and strange or unusual recordings dating from the early days of phonograph records to the present. Hansen created the Demento persona in 1970 while working at the Pasadena, California, station KPPC-FM. After he once played "Transfusion" by Nervous Norvus on the radio, DJ "The Obscene" Steven Clean said that Hansen had to be "demented" to play it; this event inspired his stage name. His weekly show went into syndication in 1974 and was syndicated by the Westwood One Radio Network from 1978 to 1992. Broadcast syndication of the show ended on June 6, 2010, but the show continues to be produced weekly in an online version.
Westwood One was an American radio network that was based in New York City. At one time, it was managed by CBS Radio, and was later purchased by the private equity firm, The Gores Group. Due to purchases, mergers and other forms of consolidation in the 1980s and 1990s, at one time or another, it had ownership stakes in or syndication rights to some of the most famous brands in network radio, including CBS, NBC, Mutual, CNN, Fox, and Unistar. The company was one of the largest producers and distributors of radio programming in the United States. It broadcast entertainment, news, weather, sports, talk, and traffic programming to about 7,700 radio stations across the United States. The company was the top provider of local traffic reports in the U.S. through its subsidiaries, Metro Networks, Shadow Broadcast Services, SmartRoute Systems, and Sigalert.com. Westwood One also offers weather services; originally using Accuweather, Westwood switched to The Weather Channel in 2009.
KLOS is a commercial radio station that is licensed to Los Angeles, California, and serves the Greater Los Angeles area. The station is owned by Meruelo Media. Licensed to Somerset, Kentucky, United States, the station is currently owned by iHeart Media as part of a duopoly of five radio stations, along with Classic country station WSEK, country station WSEK-FM (93.9 FM, classic rock station WJQQ, and Top 40/CHR station WLLK-FM.
