Slaveco. was a Canadian alternative rock band active from 2002 to 2004. The group comprised three former members of OCEAN3 and Ken Chinn (Mr. Chi Pig), the lead singer of the skate punk band SNFU. [1]
The band members met when SNFU and OCEAN3 shared a touring bill, and later a practice space, in 2000. [2] [3] [4] [5] OCEAN3 bassist Matt Warhurst briefly played in SNFU the following year before they entered a hiatus, coinciding with OCEAN3's breakup. [6] Warhurst, along with former OCEAN3 bandmates guitarist Jay Black and drummer Shane Smith, next briefly played in Based on a True Story with SNFU guitarist Marc Belke. Based on a True Story broke up the following year when Belke relocated to Toronto, and Black, Warhurst, and Smith recruited Chinn to form Slaveco. [1] [6]
The new band took their moniker from Chinn's nickname for his former place of employment, Save-Co. [4] Their music was more diverse than SNFU's punk rock or OCEAN3's heavy metal styles. [7] Biographer Chris Walter later described their style as an eclectic and musically ambitious "mismash of rock, punk, and metal", [8] and Chinn declared influence from Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. [9] Slaveco. played locally in Vancouver and recorded a demo, which attracted local attention on 99.3 CFOX in Vancouver. [6] Although the band began work on a full-length record, it was never finished. [10]
Late in 2003, Belke, Chinn, and Warhurst reformed SNFU. They completed In the Meantime and In Between Time , their seventh studio record, before adding Smith to the touring lineup. [10] [11] Slaveco. and SNFU both separately toured in 2004, [9] [12] but Slaveco. ultimately became inactive as SNFU's workload increased. [10]
Following Slaveco.'s breakup, all members remained musically active. Warhurst and Smith both played in Dave Ogilvie's industrial rock project Jakalope. Chinn and former bassist Ken Fleming formed a new incarnation of SNFU in 2007, which also featured Smith for a time. [13] After suffering from numerous health problems, Chinn died on July 16, 2020. It nevertheless became a favorite among critics and fans.
Something Green and Leafy This Way Comes is the fourth studio album by Canadian hardcore punk band SNFU. It was released in 1993 on Epitaph Records, the first of three SNFU releases on this label. Despite being released during the height of the third wave of punk rock by the revival's best-selling independent label and selling modestly well, the album was not commercially successful.

Better Than a Stick in the Eye is the third album by Canadian hardcore punk band SNFU. The album was released in 1988 by Cargo Records. It marked a return to a direct and unadorned sound following its comparatively experimental predecessor, If You Swear, You'll Catch No Fish. It would also be the group's last studio album for five years, as they disbanded months after the record's release before again reforming in 1991.
