"Smoulder" is the third single by British glam rock band King Adora. The single was released on 23 October 2000 [1] on Superior Quality Recordings and reached number 62 on the UK Singles Chart. [2] The song would later be included as the opening track on the band's 2001 debut album, Vibrate You .
Smoulder appeared in King Adora's live sets during 2000 and would go on to be played at every show for the rest of their career. The song was recorded at Sawmills Studios in Cornwall and produced and mixed by John Cornfield.
The band stated that Smoulder is "about never being able to have what you want. About hiding from yourself. About hiding your despair in sleaze and pointless sex". [3] Matt Browne commented that the song is "about two people who are perfectly matched, emotionally, sexually, spiritually connecting, that perfect thing. But at the same time the more intense the passion, the more intense the paranoia and the destructive side. It's a negative form of love, but it started out trying to put it on a pedestal. You can't escape the destruction that it causes". [4] The song is also based on Browne's personal experiences, saying "there's no point falling for someone unless it's passionately, no matter how fleeting. How many times has it happened? Maybe twenty". [4]
Two b-sides were released on the single, Massive Ego and Loved. Both songs were recorded at Woodbine Street Recording Studios in Royal Leamington Spa. John Rivers engineered and co-produced the recordings with the band. Neither song was performed live.
The Smoulder release was accompanied by King Adora's second music video. [5] The video features the band playing the song in a cramped cardboard box, which had been dropped from the sky onto a pavement. Towards the end of the song, the box is picked up by removals men and placed into a stack of boxes in the back of a truck, from which it falls.
Melody Maker described the track as "a Supergrass-meet-the-Pixies affair with, crucially, the Daleks on backing vocals and thus the most deranged and brilliantly libidinous pop fancy since Gay Dad's good song". [4]

Jeffrey Scott Buckley, raised as Scott Moorhead, was an American singer, songwriter and guitarist. After a decade as a session guitarist in Los Angeles, Buckley amassed a following in the early 1990s by playing cover songs at venues in Manhattan's East Village such as Sin-é, gradually focusing more on his own material. After rebuffing much interest from record labels and Herb Cohen, the manager of his father, singer Tim Buckley, he signed with Columbia, recruited a band, and recorded what would be his only studio album, Grace, in 1994.

Andrew Patrick Wood was an American musician. He was the lead singer and lyricist for the alternative rock bands Malfunkshun and Mother Love Bone. Wood formed Malfunkshun in 1980 with his older brother Kevin Wood on guitar and Regan Hagar on drums. The band used alter ego personas onstage, with Wood using the name Landrew the Love Child. Though the band only had two songs released, "With Yo' Heart " and "Stars-n-You", on the Deep Six compilation album, they are often cited as being among the "founding fathers" of the Seattle grunge movement. During his time in Malfunkshun, Wood started relying heavily on drugs, entering rehab in 1985.

A double A-side, the single was released on 24 November 2003 on Discovery Recordings and reached number 85 on the UK Singles Chart. The single was the only to be taken from the band's second album Who Do You Love?, released in March 2004.
Who Do You Love? is the second studio album by King Adora. It was released on 29 March 2004 and failed to chart. The album proved to be the band's final release before their breakup in September 2005.
"Friday Night Explodes" is an EP by British glam rock band King Adora, released on 3 August 2001 on Superior Quality Recordings. It was the final release from the band's debut album Vibrate You.
