Montería is a municipality and city located in northern Colombia and the capital of the Department of Córdoba. The city is located 50 km (31 mi) away from the Caribbean sea, by the Sinú River. The city and region are known for their distinct cultural heritages, which include a blend of mainly colonial Spanish descendants, indigenous Zenú peoples, Crypto-Jews, and more recently, Middle East immigrants. The city is home to the Sombrero Vueltiao, a national symbol; and is the home of Porro folklore music. The city has an inland seaport connected to the Caribbean Sea by the Sinú River.
The porro is a musical style and dance from the Caribbean region of Colombia. It is a Colombian cumbia rhythm that developed into its own subgenre. It was originally a folkloric expression from the Sinú River area that evolved into a ballroom dance. It is played mostly by brass bands or orchestras, and danced in couples. This genre influenced some of the greatest Latin American bands of the 1960s, with songs such as "Pachito E'ché", "Se va el Caimán", and "Me voy pa'Cataca"
Natalia Toledo Paz is a Mexican poet who writes in Spanish and Zapotec. Her work helped to revive interest in the Zapotec language. Ida Kozlowska-Day states that Toledo is "one of the most recognized contemporary poets in the native languages of Mexico."
Cereté is a town and municipality located in the Córdoba Department, northern Colombia. According to 2020 estimates, the population of Cereté town and municipality was 108,409.
The Gulf of Morrosquillo is a gulf of the Caribbean Sea bounded by the Colombian Departments of Sucre and Córdoba. From West to East it runs approximately 80 kilometres (50 mi) from Boca de Tinajones, mouth of Sinú River, in Córdoba, to Punta San Bernardo in Sucre.
Francisco Zumaqué Gómez is a Colombian musician and composer of rich Colombo-Caribbean rhythms. Defined as a contemporary musician with great part of his compositions oriented to Electroacoustic music, doing important research that contributed in the creation of new rhythms mixing traditional Colombian music with orchestral compositions. His music is considered avant-garde and refreshing, bright, flexible and with a personal worrisome of his cultural mark, all of these are reflected in several compositions that were a hit and are part of Colombian musical history. His compositions include symphonies, chamber music, vocals and works for non-conventional musical groups.

Syrian Colombians are Colombians of Syrian descent. Most of the ancestors of the Syrian community immigrated to Colombia from the Ottoman Empire in the late 19th and early 20th centuries for economic, political and religious reasons. The first Syrian moved to Colombia in the late nineteenth century. The great wave of Syrian migration began around 1880. This was perhaps the highest peak during the first three decades from 1880 and counting with a great decrease in the migratory flow after 1930. The Syrians as well as the Lebanese and the Palestinians Since then they continued with their establishment in the north of Colombia, mainly the Bolivar savannah, corresponding today to the departments of Córdoba and Sucre. Córdoba being the largest recipient of Syrian, Lebanese and Palestinian migration in the entire region, it is estimated that between 50,000 and 100,000, which makes the Syrians, only behind the Lebanese, as the second largest group of immigrants in Colombia since independence.
Susana Cabuchi was an Argentine poet and writer. She was born in Jesús María in Córdoba province. Her grandparents were immigrants from Syria.
Mirta Hortas (1949–2022) was an Argentine writer. She was born in Buenos Aires in 1949. She was one of the founders of the Mario Jorge de Lellis literary workshop. Some of her early stories were published in the literary magazine El Escarabajo de Oro, edited by Abelardo Castillo.
