Soerendonk en Sterksel was a municipality in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It consisted of two parts, one containing the village Soerendonk and one containing Sterksel. The two parts were separated by the municipalities of Maarheeze and Leende.

North Brabant, also unofficially called Brabant, is a province in the south of the Netherlands. It borders the provinces of South Holland and Gelderland to the north, Limburg to the east, Zeeland to the west, and Belgium to the south. The northern border follows the Meuse westward to its mouth in the Hollands Diep strait, part of the Rhine–Meuse–Scheldt delta.

Sterksel is a village in the southern Netherlands, near Eindhoven. It lies within the municipality Heeze-Leende. It's the smallest village of three in the municipality. The spoken language is "Heeze-en-Leendes", a distinct dialect within the East Brabantian dialect group, quite similar to colloquial Dutch.

The municipality existed until 1821, when it merged with Gastel to form the new municipality Soerendonk, Sterksel en Gastel. [1]

Gastel is a village in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It is located in the municipality of Cranendonck. In 2009, the village had 700 inhabitants.

East Brabantian

East Brabantian is one of the main divisions of the Brabantian dialect groups which the Woordenboek van de Brabantse Dialecten recognizes. East Brabantian dialects are mainly spoken in the eastern part of the province of North Brabant. In the classifications of Brabantian is recognized it as a separate dialect group. Sometimes it is called Meierijs, after the Bailiwick of Den Bosch.

Limburgish, also called Limburgan, Limburgian, or Limburgic, is a group of East Low Franconian varieties spoken in the Belgian and Dutch provinces both named Limburg and some neighbouring areas of Germany. The area in which it is spoken roughly fits within a wide circle from Venlo to Düsseldorf to Aachen to Maastricht to Tienen and back to Venlo. In some parts of this area it is generally used as the colloquial language in daily speech.

Conventionally, the South Guelderish dialects are distinguished from Brabantian but for objective reason other than geography.
