Somang Presbyterian Church is a Presbyterian Church of Korea (PCK) church located in Gangnam-gu in Seoul,South Korea. It is considered one of the largest churches in South Korea. The former South Korean President,Lee Myung-bak,also serves as the elder of this church.
The Somang Presbyterian Church is Lee Myung-bak's main source of socio-political connections. Many prominent figures of the Lee Myung-bak government attend the Somang Presbyterian Church. [1]
On January 3,2011,three ministers fought violently inside the church allegedly due to their conflicting theological differences. This resulted in a facial injury to the head minister. It is later revealed that the two subordinate ministers were threatened that they couldn't assign time slots to their service. There had been two more violent incidents before this. [2]
Choi Seung-ho,the producer of MBC's investigative journalist program called PD Notebook was suddenly replaced by another staff on early March 2011 after investigating the Somang Presbyterian Church. There were concerns whether the South Korean President Lee Myung-bak was involved in this censorship-like action. The staffs from MBC criticized this action as "an intention to purge the journalists who are pursuing critical investigative journalism" and took actions against it. [3] The producer of KBS's investigative journalist program called Chujeok 60 Bun was also later found out that was suddenly appointed to the International Department to stop any investigation towards the church. On April 8,2011,a former subordinate minister of Somang Presbyterian Church was arrested for banking fraud. [5]
Park Tae-kyu,the representative lobbyist of Busan Savings Bank,once affiliated with the Somang Presbyterian Church. [6] Park Tae-kyu was responsible for bribing the now-resigned Senior Secretary of Public Relations of the Blue House,Kim Du-woo. [7]
Lee Myung-bak often referred to by his initials MB,is a South Korean businessman and politician who served as the 10th president of South Korea from 2008 to 2013. Before his presidency,he was the CEO of Hyundai Engineering and Construction,and the mayor of Seoul from 2002 to 2006.

The 2011 South Korean University Tuition Crisis was a socio-political dispute among the conservative Grand National Party,the liberal Democratic Party,and various citizen groups over reduced university tuition fees for South Korean university students. The reduced tuition is one of the main commitments during the start of the GNP-led Lee Myung-bak government in 2008. This commitment made by the GNP has not been manifested,or potentially ignored,as of 2011. This could be due to the government's big business-oriented policies overshadowed the education-related domestic issues. The DDoS attacks during the October 2011 South Korean by-election were allegedly two separate distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks that occurred on October 26,2011. The attacks,which took place during the October 2011 Seoul mayoral by-election,targeted the websites of the National Election Commission (NEC) and then-mayoral candidate Park Won-soon. Investigators assert that the attacks were carried out in hopes of suppressing young voters,to the benefit of the Grand National Party. An aide of Grand National Party legislator Choi Gu-sik was found responsible for the attacks.
In the Lee Myung-bak rat poster incident in Seoul,South Korea,university instructor Park Jeong-su (박정수) was indicted by the South Korean authorities for drawing a face of a rat on a promotional poster for the 2010 G-20 Seoul summit.
