Presbyterianism is a part of the Reformed tradition within Protestantism that broke from the Roman Catholic Church. Presbyterian churches derive their name from the presbyterian form of church government by representative assemblies of elders. Many Reformed churches are organised this way,but the word Presbyterian,when capitalized,is often applied to churches that trace their roots to the Church of Scotland or to English Dissenter groups that formed during the English Civil War.
The Second Great Awakening was a Protestant religious revival during the early 19th century in the United States. The Second Great Awakening,which spread religion through revivals and emotional preaching,sparked a number of reform movements. The Third Great Awakening refers to a historical period proposed by William G. McLoughlin that was marked by religious activism in American history and spans the late 1850s to the early 20th century. It influenced pietistic Protestant denominations and had a strong element of social activism. It gathered strength from the postmillennial belief that the Second Coming of Christ would occur after mankind had reformed the entire Earth. It was affiliated with the Social Gospel movement,which applied Christianity to social issues and gained its force from the awakening,as did the worldwide missionary movement. New groupings emerged,such as the Holiness movement and Nazarene and Pentecostal movements,and also Jehovah's Witnesses,Spiritualism,Theosophy,Thelema,and Christian Science. The era saw the adoption of a number of moral causes,such as the abolition of slavery and prohibition.
The practice of Christianity in Korea is marginal in North Korea,but significant in South Korea,where it revolves around two of its largest branches,Protestantism and Catholicism,accounting for 8.6 million and 5.8 million members,respectively. Catholicism was first introduced during the late Joseon Dynasty period by Confucian scholars who encountered it in China. In 1603,Yi Gwang-jeong,a Korean diplomat,returned from Beijing carrying several theological books written by Matteo Ricci,an Italian Jesuit missionary to China. He began disseminating the information in the books,introducing Christianity to Korea. In 1758,King Yeongjo of Joseon officially outlawed Catholicism as an "evil practice." Catholicism was reintroduced in 1785 by Yi Seung-hun and since then French and Chinese Catholic priests were invited by the Korean Christians.
William Farel,Guilhem Farel or Guillaume Farel,was a French evangelist,Protestant reformer and a founder of the Calvinist Church in the Principality of Neuchâtel,in the Republic of Geneva,and in Switzerland in the Canton of Bern and the Canton of Vaud. He is most often remembered for having persuaded John Calvin to remain in Geneva in 1536,and for persuading him to return there in 1541,after their expulsion in 1538. They influenced the government of Geneva to the point that it became the "Protestant Rome",where Protestants took refuge and non-Protestants were driven out. Together with Calvin,Farel worked to train missionary preachers who spread the Protestant cause to other countries,and especially to France.
Protestant Christianity entered China in the early 19th century,taking root in a significant way during the Qing dynasty. Some historians consider the Taiping Rebellion to have been influenced by Protestant teachings. Since the mid-20th century,there has been an increase in the number of Christian practitioners in China. According to a survey published in 2010 there are approximately 40 million Protestants in China. As of 2019,Fenggang Yang,a sociologist of religion at Purdue University,estimated that there are around 100 million Protestant Christians in China. Other estimates place the number of Protestant Christians at around 40–60 million

Liberal or modernist theology was one consequence of this. In Europe,the Roman Catholic Church strongly opposed liberalism and culture wars launched in Germany,Italy,Belgium and France. It strongly emphasized personal piety. In Europe there was a general move away from religious observance and belief in Christian teachings and a move towards secularism. In Protestantism,pietistic revivals were common.

YoungSang Ro(魯英相,Korean: 노영상,March 21,1954 ~) is a Korean theologian in the field of Christian ethics as well as a Protestant pastor of The Presbyterian Church of Korea (TongHap). He was a longtime professor and President at Honam Theological University and Seminary,and professor and dean of theological seminary at Presbyterian University &Theological Seminary. In the fall of 2017,he also assumed a professor at Baekseok University. He is considered to be one of the important theologians in Korea who was named in Marquis Who’s Who in the World,2018. He specializes in Christian ethics,Christian culture,and Korean unification research. He has written widely on a diverse range of subjects,such as the eco-theology,Christian bioethics,the methodology of Christian social ethics,church and society,future society and future ministry,Christian study on homosexuality,biblical ethics and Christian virtue ethics. He is the leading scholar of the village ministerial movement for the Korean church. He is president of the 23rd Korean Association of Christian Studies. In 2017,he served as a co-chairman of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. He is currently president of the Korean Church Institute of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Korea. He was named Theologian of the Year at the 8th John Calvin 500th Anniversary Project in 2018. He is the leading leader of the village pastoral movement for the Korean church.
The Presbyterian Church in Cambodia or Presbyterian Church of Cambodia (PCC),officially Synod Presbyterian Church in Cambodia,is a denomination Reformed Presbyterian,founded in Cambodia,in 1993,by Korean Presbyterian missionaries and the Presbyterian Church in Singapore.
