The Presbyterian Church of Korea (TongHap) is a mainline Protestant denomination based in South Korea;it currently has the second largest membership of any Presbyterian denomination in the world.[ citation needed ] It is affiliated with its daughter denomination,the Korean Presbyterian Church in America (KPCA) in the United States,which adopted the "Korean Presbyterian Church Abroad" as its new name in 2009.
Presbyterianism in Korea was reconstructed after World War II in 1947. The church adopted the name the Reformed Church in Korea. In the 1950s the church suffered tensions because the issues of theology,ecumenism and worship. In 1959 Presbyterian Church of Korea broke into two equal sections. This church and The Presbyterian Church in Korea (HapDong) church separated. In 1984 the church celebrated the 100th anniversary of Presbyterianism in Korea. The church is an ecumenical denomination. [3] Membership is about 2.1 million and has 6,000 congregations in 56 presbyteries in 2004. [4]
The denomination is a member of the World Communion of Reformed Churches [5] and World Council of Churches.
The Apostles Creed and the Westminster Confession are the official recognised confessions. [6]
According to the World Council of Churches there are 2.85 million members in 8,200 congregations. [7]
The Korean Presbyterian Church split for the third time (1951,1953,and 1959) when the church divided for and against Park Hyung- Ryong (박형룡朴亨龍,1897 ~ 1978),president of the Presbyterian Seminary Society of the General Assembly. The anti-Park party is called 대한예수교장로회(통합)'Tonghap' (the united body) and the pro-Park party is called 대한예수교장로회(합 [8]
Presbyterianism is a part of the Reformed tradition within Protestantism that broke from the Roman Catholic Church. Presbyterian churches derive their name from the presbyterian form of church government by representative assemblies of elders. Many Reformed churches are organised this way,but the word Presbyterian,when capitalized,is often applied to churches that trace their roots to the Church of Scotland or to English Dissenter groups that formed during the English Civil War.

The World Communion of Reformed Churches (WCRC) is the largest association of Calvinist churches in the world. It has 230 member denominations in 108 countries,together claiming an estimated 80 million people,thus being the fourth-largest Christian communion in the world after the Catholic Church,Eastern Orthodox Church,and the Anglican Communion. This ecumenical Christian body was formed in June 2010 by the union of the World Alliance of Reformed Churches (WARC) and the Reformed Ecumenical Council (REC).
The Korean Presbyterian Church in America now Korean Presbyterian Church Abroad is an independent Presbyterian denomination in the United States. It was founded in 1976 as a union of 3 Korean language Presbyteries. The mother church was the Presbyterian Church in Korea (TongHap). The church has close relationship with the PC(USA) and the Korean Christian Church in Japan. In 2004 it had 29,000 members and 263 congregations. According to the recent statistics it has 55,000 members and 302 congregations. Official languages are English and Korean. The church uses the Westminster Confession and the Apostles Creed. Since 2010 it formed an English speaking presbytery. KPCA is a member of the World Communion of Reformed Churches. It is also a member of the National Council of Churches of Christ in the United States of America and the Christian Churches Together in the USA (CCT-USA).
The Presbyterian Church in the Republic of Korea or the KiJang Presbyterian Church is an ecumenically-minded Presbyterian denomination in South Korea.
The Presbyterian Church of the Philippines (PCP),officially The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of the Philippines,is a growing evangelical,Bible-based Reformed church in the Philippines. It was officially founded in 1987 and the General Assembly was organized in September 1996.

The Evangelical Christian Church in Halmahera (GMIH) represents the half of the population in the island of Halmahera. Before World War I,the Reformed Christian Church in Serbia was part of the Reformed Church in Hungary. In the period of the Reformation,Rev Sztáray planted 120 Calvinist congregations in the region. In the period of the Ottoman Empire,regions of Hungary were part of the empire and some villages were destroyed. After the Turks were defeated,Hungarian Calvinists emerged from Debrecen and Szentes. In 1898,a whole Catholic village converted to the Calvinist faith because the Catholic church refused to celebrate the mass in the Hungarian language. After World War I,this part of Hungary was connected to Serbia. In 1933,the Reformed Church in Yugoslavia was founded. At that time,among Hungarians,there were German Calvinist congregations;the Germans arrived in this region in the 18th century. After World War II,the Germans were forced to leave the country. There are Czech-speaking and a remnant of German speaking congregations,which had suffered during the Communist regime. A number of congregations separated when Croatia become independent to form the Reformed Christian Church in Croatia.
The Christian Evangelical Church in Minahasa is a Protestant,Calvinist and Reformed church in Indonesia. It was founded in North Sulawesi on 30 September 1934.
The Protestant Christian Church in Bali is a Reformed denomination established on 11 November 1931 in Bali,Indonesia. It was a fruit of the efforts of the Christian and Missionary Alliance,but the Dutch Reformed Church and the Church in East Java participated in the work. Significant development took place after 1950. The denomination adopted its current name on 21 April 1949. The church is located in Bali,Java,West Nusa Tenggara. There are also churches located in Hamburg,Germany and two churches are in Bern and Amsterdam.
The Pasundan Christian Church was officially established in Indonesia on 14 November 1934. It has 51 congregations and 33,000 members. It is a member of the World Communion of Reformed Churches (WCRC).
The Korean Christian Church in Japan was founded in 1909 by Presbyterian missionaries from Korea. Pastor Han Sok-Po evangelized primarily among Korean students in Tokyo. From 1915 the Korean Presbyterians send more missionaries and the church in Japan grew steadily. Congregations are in all parts of Japan. In 1934 the Korean Church in Japan was established,but in 1939 it was forced to become a part of the Church of Christ in Japan. After World War II it separated and held a General Assembly of the Korean Christian Church in Japan. The Apostles Creed and Westminster Confession of Faith are the official documents. Partner churches are the Presbyterian Church in Canada and the Presbyterian Church in Korea.
The church history dates back to 1948,the foundation of the DaeHan Seminary and with Rev. Kim Chi-sun,Pastor Kim Su-do,Rev. Yun Phil-sung started evening courses for the formation of the candidate of ministry. In 1960 the HapDong and TongHap split. Rev. Kim Chi-sun who belonged to hapDong founded the Bible Presbyterian Church in Korea. Soon tension arose between the Seminary and the Bible Presbyterian Church. In 1968 Kim withdrew from ICCC. Kim Chi-sun was running the Daeshin Seminary by himself. He tried to get his son appointed as director of the seminary. This idea was opposed by the professor of the Seminary,he was Choi Soon-jik who started with his follower the HapDongJinRi denomination,the leading figure was Huh Kwang-jae. In 1972 Kim Chi-sun and his son withdrew the denomination. The Daeshin group later revised its constitution. In 1974 the church adopted the "Declaration of the Church" and amended the new constitution in 1976. It joined the Council of Presbyterian Churches in Korea in 1980 and the World Alliance of Reformed Churches in 1992. Daeshin has experienced steady growth in recent years. It has 140,000 members in 1,170 congregations,30 Presbyteries and a General Assembly. The church subscribes to the Apostles Creed and the Westminster Confession. The Reformed Presbyterian Church in Africa (Uganda) was formed in 2007 by pastors and elders graduating from the Westminster Theological Seminary in Mbale,Uganda. In Uganda there are 10 congregations and 2 Presbyteries. In Kenya and Tanzania there is one Presbytery in each country.
The Presbyterian Church in Korea HapDongBoSu II was result of a split in the Presbyterian Church in Korea HapDongBoSu I. It had participated in the union movement to restore the unity of the Presbyterian Church in Korea (HapDong) but the attempt failed and it became an independent denomination. The HapDongBoSu I is a conservative Calvinist denomination opposed to both the World Council of Churches and the National Council of Churches. It belongs to the larger conservative denominations and runs nine seminaries and ten Bible schools. It has Presbyterian church government,the standards are the Westminster Confession and the Apostles Creed. In 2004,the church had 669,346 members in 1,300 congregations.
The Kosin Presbyterian Church in Korea,also called Korea-pa,is an Evangelical Reformed and Presbyterian denomination in the Republic of South Korea. Although,congregations have spread all over North America and in many other countries.
