Lira is a city in the Northern Region of Uganda. It is the main municipal, administrative, and commercial centre of Lira District.
The system of education in Uganda has a structure of 7 years of primary education, 6 years of secondary education, and 3 to 5 years of post-secondary education. Education in Uganda is administered in English. All throughout the levels in the education structure, modules are taught and assessed in English. Christine Hellen Amongin Aporu is a Ugandan educator and politician. She served as the State Minister for Teso Affairs in the Office of the Prime Minister in the Cabinet of Uganda. She was appointed to that position on 27 May 2011. She represented Kumi District in Parliament as a women's representative.
Soroti University (SUN), is a public multi-campus university in Uganda. It is one of the nine public universities and degree-awarding institutions in the country.
Serere Township Secondary School is a government sponsored, private coeducational secondary school in Serere, Eastern Uganda. The school caters for both boarding and day pupils. The lower secondary provides 4 years of schooling at the end of which students sit Uganda Certificate of Education (O-level) exams in up to 8 subjects. The upper secondary provides a further 2 years of schooling at the end of which students sit Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (A-level) exams in up to 3 subjects.
The East African Civil Aviation Academy (EACAA), also known as the Soroti Flying School, is a Ugandan school that trains aircraft pilots and aircraft maintenance engineers.
Teso College Aloet (TCA) was established in 1953. Teso College is an all-male preparatory school, a boarding school, located in Aloet, Soroti, in Uganda. As of 2014, Teso College has 1,574 students. Over 30,000 students have graduated from TCA since its establishment. Teso College ranks in the top 50 in the Ugandan national examinations performance listing.
The Ministry of Education and Sports (MES), is a cabinet-level ministry of Uganda. It is mandated "to provide technical support, guide, coordinate, regulate and promote quality education, training and sports to all persons in Uganda for national integration, development and individual advancement", according to the website of the ministry.
Francis Gervase Omaswa, MBChB, MMed, FRCS (Edin), FCS (ECSA), is a Ugandan cardiovascular surgeon, academic and administrator. He was installed as the chancellor of Soroti University, one of the nine public universities in Uganda at that time, in August 2022.

Hellen Asamo also known as Asamo Hellen Grace is a Ugandan teacher and a representative of people with disabilities for Eastern region who served in the ninth and tenth Parliaments of Uganda. She won the 2021 general elections for her position as the representative of people with disabilities for Eastern region. Hellen is affiliated to the National Resistance Movement political party.
