South Coast Sapphires are a women's cricket team that compete in the FairBreak Invitational T20. The team is geographically based in South Coast, Australia. The team was founded in 2022. They are currently being captained by Sana Mir of Pakistan and coached by Shane Deitz. [1]
Sapphires were formed in January 2022 to compete in the inaugural edition of the FairBreak Invitational T20, a multi-national women's Twenty20 cricket tournament. [2] This was the first time that the team participated in any cricket competition at professional level. [3] [4] In May 2022, the tournament was sanctioned by the ICC. [5] The team represents the South Coast region of New South Wales, Australia. [6] The franchise is made up of some of the best women players as well as emerging players from different countries of the world. [7] [8]
South Coast Sapphires were captained by Pakistani cricketer Sana Mir, [9] and coached by Mohtashim Rasheed in the 2022 edition. [10] The side had a disappointing campaign, as they finished fifth in the league with just two wins from five matches. [11] They played their first ever match on 5 May 2022, [12] against the Tornadoes, which they lost by 17 runs. [13]
Sapphires are taking part in the 2023 season under the leadership of Sana Mir, with Shane Deitz being named as the coach of the team. [14]

Shane Alan Deitz is an Australian cricket coach and former player. He played first-class cricket for the Southern Redbacks as a left-handed top-order batsman and occasional wicket-keeper. He was appointed coach of the Netherlands women's national team in 2020, having previously served as head coach of the Vanuatu men's national team and also as CEO of Vanuatu Cricket.
Katey Jane Martin is a New Zealand former cricketer who played as a wicket-keeper and right-handed batter. She appeared in one Test match, 103 One Day Internationals and 95 Twenty20 Internationals for New Zealand between 2003 and 2022. She played domestic cricket for Otago and Melbourne Stars.
Mignon du Preez is a former South African cricketer, who was the women's team captain in all three forms of cricket, Test matches, ODIs and T20Is, from 2007 to 2018. A right-handed batter and occasional wicket-keeper, du Preez made her debut for the South Africa national women's cricket team in January 2007, aged seventeen. Besides being the South African player with most matches as captain in both ODIs and T20Is, she is the highest run-scorer for South Africa women in ODIs and T20Is. In April 2022, du Preez announced her retirement from Test and ODI cricket, allowing her to focus on the shorter format of the game and spend more time with her family. Sana Mir is a Pakistani cricket commentator and former cricketer who served as a captain of the Pakistan national women's cricket team in ODIs and T20Is. She played in 226 international matches, including 137 of those as captain of the side. She was the first bowler for Pakistan to take 100 wickets in WODIs. She played domestic cricket for Karachi and Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited.
Bismah Maroof is a Pakistani cricketer who plays as an all-rounder, batting left-handed and bowling right-arm leg break. In June 2022, she became the most runs scorer for Pakistani women's cricket team in both ODI and T20I formats. She has appeared for Pakistan in over 200 matches, captained the side between 2013 and 2020, and was the first woman to score 1,000 runs in ODIs for Pakistan. The tournament, sanctioned by the ICC, is being privately run by FairBreak Global, a company that aims to promote gender equality. A total of 90 players from 28 countries spread across six teams.
