The Southern Miss Golden Eagles baseball team has represented The University of Southern Mississippi over 104 seasons, dating back to its inception in 1913. The Golden Eagles are a founding member of Conference USA.

USM's newest sport of women's beach volleyball, a sport not currently sponsored by the Sun Belt, was added in the 2018–19 school year and competes in Conference USA. The school's earliest nickname was Tigers. Thereafter came such nicknames as Normalites, Yellow Jackets, Confederates, and Southerners. Golden Eagles was selected in a student/alumni vote in the early 1972. Seymour d'Campus is the name of the modern-day mascot eagle.

The 1990 Southern Miss Golden Eagles football team was an American football team that represented the University of Southern Mississippi as an independent during the 1990 NCAA Division I-A football season. In their third year under head coach Curley Hallman, the team compiled an 8–4 record and lost the 1990 All-American Bowl. The Golden Eagles had one of the biggest upsets of the college football season when they beat the Alabama Crimson Tide by a score of 27–24. Another upset followed later in the season when the Golden Eagles beat the Auburn Tigers by a score of 13–12.

The Southern Miss Golden Eagles baseball team represents the University of Southern Mississippi in NCAA Division I college baseball. They participate as a member of the Sun Belt Conference. The team has been to 20 NCAA Tournaments and served as an NCAA Regional host in 2003, 2017, 2022 and NCAA Super Regional host in 2022,2023. The Southern Miss baseball team has produced 19 All-Americans. and currently has 4 players on Major League rosters. Southern Miss has won six Conference USA Regular Season Championships and seven Tournament Championships and was the only team in CUSA to participate in every conference baseball tournament from the conference's inception until their departure following the 2022 season. During their inaugural season in The Sun Belt Conference, the Golden Eagles captured the SBC Tournament Championship. The Golden Eagles' rich history began in 1912 with a game against the Detroit Tigers, a contest which Southern Miss lost by a score of 24–2. The Golden Eagles play at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field on the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi and consistently rank in the top 10 nationally in NCAA attendance figures. During the 2023 season, Southern Miss "sold out" every seat for Pete Taylor Park including several hundred "standing room only" seats.

Carlton Devan "Corky" Palmer was an American college baseball coach. He was head coach at Meridian Community College before serving as the head coach of the Southern Miss Golden Eagles baseball team for 12 seasons, retiring at the end of the 2009 season. In his final season, he brought the Golden Eagles to the College World Series, USM's first appearance there.

Austin Davis is an American former professional football quarterback who played in the National Football League (NFL). He was a member of the St. Louis Rams, Miami Dolphins, Cleveland Browns, Denver Broncos, Seattle Seahawks and Tennessee Titans. He played college football for the Southern Miss Golden Eagles, where he began his career as a walk-on, he redshirted the 2007 season and became the starter a year later. He ended the year with a combined total of 15 school records for both game and single-season marks and led the Golden Eagles to a bowl game victory in the 2008 New Orleans Bowl, being named to the freshman all-C-USA team.

Lane Burroughs is an American college baseball coach, currently serving as head coach of the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs baseball program. He was previously the head coach at Northwestern State, named to that position prior to the 2013 season.

James Edward Carmody Jr. was a former American football player and coach. He served as the head football coach at the University of Southern Mississippi from 1982 to 1987, compiling a career record of 37–29. Carmody's 1982 Golden Eagles team went into Bryant–Denny Stadium defeated Bear Bryant's Alabama team that had won 56 consecutive home games entering the contest. Carmody also served as an assistant coach at Mississippi State University, the University of Mississippi and the University of North Carolina.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Reed Green</span> American baseball player (1911–2002)

Bernard Reed Green was an American football, basketball, and baseball player, coach, and college athletics administrator. He served as the head football coach at the University of Southern Mississippi from 1937 to 1948, compiling a record of 59–20–4. Green's winning percentage of .735 is the best of any head coach in the history of the Southern Miss Golden Eagles football program. Born in Leakesville, Mississippi, he attended the University of Southern Mississippi from 1930 until 1933 and lettered on the football, basketball, and baseball teams. He became the head coach of Southern Miss when Allison Pooley Hubert left to become the head coach at Virginia Military Institute. Green became the athletic director at Southern Miss in 1949 and held that position until 1973. He was inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame in 1966. Green died in 2002.

The 2020 Southern Miss Golden Eagles football team represented the University of Southern Mississippi in the 2020 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Golden Eagles played their home games at the M. M. Roberts Stadium in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and competed in the West Division of Conference USA (CUSA). Head coach Jay Hopson, who was in his fifth year, resigned after one game and was replaced by interim head coach Scotty Walden. Walden himself resigned after four games to become the head coach at Austin Peay and was replaced by Tim Billings.
