Filming began on 11 March 2013 and the crew shot the entire film in and around Chennai city. Onaayum Aattukkuttiyum released on 27 September 2013 and got universal acclaim. This film acquired cult status in Tamil cinema and inspired similar themes.
Thulli Vilayadu is a 2013 Tamil-language comedy thriller film written and directed by Vincent Selva and produced by D. Govindaraj. The film features newcomer Yuvaraj, Deepthi Nambiar, Soori, and Sendrayan in the lead roles. Prakash Raj and Jayaprakash play important roles with comic shades. Srikanth Deva has scored the music, while S. K. Boopathy has cranked the camera and V. T. Vijayan did the film's editing. The film released on 28 June 2013.

Aayirathil Iruvar is a 2017 Indian Tamil-language action romance film written, directed and co-produced by Saran. The film stars Vinay Rai in dual lead roles and three newcomers, Sakshi Chaudhary, Surabhi Santhosh and Kesha Khambhati, as the female leads, while the director's regular composer Bharadwaj scores the music. The film was primarily shot in Thirunelveli, shooting also took place in Hyderabad, Bangkok and Dubai. The film deals with the issue of money laundering and hawala. It began its production in December 2012 and went through several production delays, it finally released on 22 September 2017. It fared poorly at the box office.

The film stars Sri, Sundeep Kishan, and Regina Cassandra, and its soundtrack was composed by Javed Riaz. It is the feature directorial debut of Lokesh.
Thupparivaalan (transl. Detective) is a 2017 Indian Tamil-language action thriller film written and directed by Mysskin. The film was produced by Vishal, who also stars in the lead role with Prasanna. The film also features Vinay Rai, Anu Emmanuel in her Tamil debut,Andrea Jeremiah and K. Bhagyaraj. The film and its titular protagonist were both loosely inspired by British writer Arthur Conan Doyle's detective character, Sherlock Holmes; he has been given the credits in the opening of the film.
