The Sri Lanka women's national field hockey team represents Sri Lanka at international field hockey competitions for women. Sri Lanka is currently ranked under 40 FIH rating.July 2017 FIH Ratings The women's team was eligible to contest in the Women's FIH Hockey World League for the first time in its history after making its first appearance in the 2016–17 Women's FIH Hockey World League. Sri Lanka competed in the Round 1 (Asian category) of the Hockey World League for the season 2016-17 and they were knocked out of the first round claiming only 2 wins out of 6 pool matches. [2]

Sri Lankan women's field hockey team also secured a silver medal in the field hockey competition which was part of the 2016 South Asian Games after losing to favourites India in the finals by a huge margin. It was also the first ever women's field hockey tournament to have contested in the South Asian Games. [3] [4]

In 2003, Sri Lankan women team also won a silver medal in the AHF Women's field hockey tournament. [5]

The India men's national field hockey team represents India in international field hockey competitions, and is governed by Hockey India. The team was formerly under the control of Indian Hockey Federation. India was the first non-European team to be a part of the International Hockey Federation. In 1928, the team won its first Olympic gold medal and until 1960, the Indian men's team remained unbeaten in the Olympics, winning six gold medals in a row. The team had a 30–0 winning streak during this time, from their first game in 1928 until the 1960 gold medal final which they lost. India also won the World Cup in 1975. India's hockey team is the most successful team ever in the Olympics, having won a total of eight gold medals – in 1928, 1932, 1936, 1948, 1952, 1956, 1964 and 1980. The Pakistan national field hockey team represents Pakistan in international field hockey. Originally scheduled to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020, the games were postponed to 23 July to 8 August 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. India has appeared in every edition of the Summer Olympics since 1920, although it made its official debut at the 1900 Summer Olympics in Paris. The nation sent its largest-ever contingent of 126 competitors to the 2020 Games. Nayana Madushani Jayaneththi also spelt as Nayana Jayanetthi is a former Sri Lankan field hockey player who represented Sri Lanka at international level. Her husband Nalantha is also a field hockey player who has represented Sri Lanka men's hockey team.
