The Sri Lanka A cricket team is a national cricket team representing Sri Lanka. It is the second-tier of international Sri Lankan cricket, below the full Sri Lanka national cricket team. Matches played by Sri Lanka A are not considered to be Test matches or One Day Internationals, instead receiving first-class and List A classification respectively. Sri Lanka A played their first match in February 1991, a 45-over contest against England A.

Sri Lanka A have played a number of series, both home and away against other national A teams, and competed against other first-class opposition. [2]

Sri Lanka A Cricket team has the world record for the highest 7th wicket partnership in List A history(Rangana Herath & Thilina Kandamby put on 203*) [3] [4]

The Sri Lanka men's national cricket team, nicknamed The Lions, represents Sri Lanka in men's international cricket. It was a Full Member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) with Test, One-Day International (ODI) and T20 International (T20I) status until it was suspended, for 11 days, by the ICC on 10 November 2023. The suspension was lifted on 21 November 2023. The team first played international cricket in 1926–27 and became an associate member of the ICC in 1965. Kumar Chokshanada Sangakkara born 27 October 1977 is a Sri Lankan former professional cricketer who represented Sri Lanka in 134 Test matches from 2000 to 2015, including fifteen as captain. In first-class cricket, he played for Nondescripts Cricket Club from 1997–98 to 2013–14 and for Surrey County Cricket Club from 2015 to 2017. He also played for numerous franchise teams. He was born in Matale, Central Province.

Sahan Hewa Thilina Kandambi is a former Sri Lankan cricketer and a former T20 international captain for Sri Lanka. A specialist middle-order batsman, Kandambi was marked out as a talent early, playing for the Sri Lanka Under 19s from 1998 to 2001. He also played ten first class games for the Sri Lanka A cricket team. In January 2021 he was appointed as the head coach of T10 team Bangla Tigers.

Herath Mudiyanselage Rangana Keerthi Bandara Herath, known as Rangana Herath, is a former Sri Lankan cricketer, who played all forms of cricket game and a former Test cricket captain for Sri Lanka. Herath is the most successful left arm bowler in Test cricket history. He is currently working as spin bowling consultant with the Bangladesh cricket team. Herath was a member of the Sri Lankan team that won the 2014 ICC World Twenty20.

Warushavithana Upul Tharanga, commonly known as Upul Tharanga is a former professional Sri Lankan cricketer. A former limited over captain, Tharanga played for all formats of the game. He is a left-handed opening batsman and occasional wicket-keeper. He is widely regarded as one of the best Sri Lankan batsmen in One Day Internationals (ODIs). On 23 February 2021, Upul announced his retirement from international cricket. He is the current national chief selector of both Sri Lanka men's and women's cricket teams.

Lokuge Dinesh Chandimal is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer and a former captain of the Sri Lanka national cricket team. A handy right-handed middle order batter who sometimes plays as the wicket-keeper, Chandimal lead Sri Lanka in the group stages of the 2014 ICC World Twenty20 in which Sri Lanka ended up as the champions. Sompal Kami is a Nepalese professional cricketer. Kami is a right-handed batsman and a right-arm fast-medium bowler. He is one of the eleven cricketers to play in Nepal's first ever One Day International (ODI) match, against the Netherlands, in August 2018. In January 2019, he became the first bowler for Nepal to take a five-wicket haul in an ODI match.

Sachith Shanaka Pathirana, is a former Sri Lankan cricketer, who played for the national team and domestically in first-class, List A and Twenty20 matches. Pathirana was a bowling all-rounder who bowled slow left-arm orthodox spin and left handed lower-middle order batsman. Presently he serves as the spin bowling coach of the Sri Lanka Under-19 cricket team.

The History of the Sri Lanka national cricket team began with the formation of the Colombo Cricket Club in 1832. By the 1880s a national team, the Ceylon national cricket team, was formed which began playing first-class cricket by the 1920s. The Ceylon national cricket team had achieved associate member status of the International Cricket Council in 1965. Renamed Sri Lanka in 1972, the national team first competed in top level international cricket in 1975, when they played against West Indies during 1975 Cricket World Cup; West Indies won the match by 9 wickets at Old Trafford, Manchester, England.

Weerahandige Inol Avishka Fernando, commonly as Avishka Fernando, is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer, who currently plays limited over internationals for Sri Lanka national team. He plays for Colts Cricket Club in domestic cricket, and he made his international debut for the Sri Lanka cricket team in August 2016. He had his education in St. Sebastian's College, Moratuwa.
