Kannada cinema, also known as Sandalwood, or Chandanavana, is the segment of Indian cinema dedicated to the production of motion pictures in the Kannada language widely spoken in the state of Karnataka. Kannada cinema is based in Gandhi Nagar, Bengaluru. The 1934 film Sati Sulochana directed by Y. V. Rao was the first talkie film released in the Kannada language. It was also the first film starring Subbaiah Naidu and Tripuramba, and the first screened in the erstwhile Mysore Kingdom. It was produced by Chamanlal Doongaji, who in 1932 founded South India Movietone in Bengaluru.
Veeraswamy Ravichandran, known mononymously as Ravichandran, is an Indian actor, director, producer, music director, lyricist and editor working predominantly in Kannada cinema. With Gandhi in the lead, it turned out to be the highest grossing female lead film in Kannada cinema.
M.G. Srinivas is an Indian actor, film director and screenwriter who works in Kannada cinema. He made his debut as a director in the Kannada film industry with Topiwala (2013), a commercial entertainer starring Upendra. He made his debut as a lead actor in Srinivasa Kalyana (2017).
Geethanjali is a 2014 Indian Telugu-language comedy horror film directed by debutant Raj Kiran. It stars Anjali and Srinivasa Reddy in lead roles. The film's soundtrack and background score were composed by Praveen Lakkaraju. The movie was remade in Kannada as Kathe Chitrakathe Nirdeshana Puttanna (2016). It stars Komal Kumar and Priyamani in the lead roles whilst Pooja Gandhi also features in a pivotal role. Arjun Janya composed the soundtrack and background score for the film.
Kalpana 2 is a 2016 Indian Kannada-language horror comedy film directed by R. Anantha Raju and produced by Dr. Rajendra, Shilpa Srinivas and Swamee. It is the second installment after Kalpana and is a remake of the Tamil film Kanchana 2. The film features Upendra, Priyamani and Avantika Shetty in the lead roles. The film's musical score is by Arjun Janya.

Dandupalya 2 is a 2017 Indian Kannada-language crime thriller directed by Srinivas Raju and produced by Venkat. Based on the infamous dacoit gang from Dandupalya, the film is a sequel to the 2012 film Dandupalya and the second instalment in the Dandupalya franchise. The film stars Pooja Gandhi, continuing her role from the predecessor. The principal cast includes P. Ravi Shankar, Makarand Deshpande, Ravi Kale, Shruti, and Sanjjana,. The film features music composed by Arjun Janya and cinematography by Venkat Prasad. The film opened to mixed reviews from audience and critics upon the release and went on to become a box-office hit at both Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
Dandupalya 3 is a 2018 Indian Kannada-language crime thriller film directed by Srinivas Raju and produced by Ram Talluri. Based on the infamous dacoit gang from Dandupalya, the film is a sequel to the 2017 critically acclaimed film Dandupalya 2 and is third film in the franchise. The film stars Pooja Gandhi, continuing her role from the prequels and most of the principal cast including P. Ravishankar, Makarand Deshpande, Ravi Kale, Shruti, Petrol Prasanna and Sanjjana reprise their roles from the previous films. The film's score and soundtrack is composed by Arjun Janya and cinematography by Venkat Prasad. The film is dubbed into Telugu language and is entitled Dandupalyam 3. Much of the crew members have been retained for the film from the prequels apart from roping in Naveen Krishna, Tabla Nani, Ramesh and Gururaj Desai to pen the dialogues. The film would mark the end of the franchise.
Body God is a 2022 Indian Kannada-language black comedy film produced and directed by Prabhu Srinivas, starring Manoj Kumaraswamy and Guruprasad with an ensemble supporting cast. Karan B Krupa composed the film's songs and background score. The story is written by Prabhu Srinivas and screenplay by Prabhu Srinivas, Co-director Vyshak, Karundhel Rajesh and Naveen Reddy of Akira fame. Prashanth Y N, Abhinandan Deshpriya and S.K.S penned the dialogues.
