The St. George Formation is a geologic formation in California. It preserves fossils dating back to the Pliocene period, including carbonized petrified wood. [1]
This formation is relatively rare, with the only known exposures occurring on the north side of Point St. George and at nearby Pebble beach, both west of Crescent City, California.
Colognathus is a genus of extinct reptile from Late Triassic rocks of the southwestern United States. It was described in 1928 from a jaw fragment by Case, who interpreted the new taxon as a fish. The type species is C. obscurus.
