St Mary's Church is the Church of England parish church in Morcott, Rutland. It is a Grade I listed building. [2]
The Norman church [3] features a 'pancake' window on the west side of the tower, and a north arcade considered to be "the best example of Norman work in the area". [4] The chancel arch has a carving of two serpents swallowing each other's tails. [3] The nave is Norman [5] and the arcade columns are also carved. [6]
Other parts of the church date to rebuilding in the 14th century and from the Victorian Restoration. [6]
The pulpit is Jacobean. [5] There is a tomb to William de Overtoun [7] whose family were the Lords of the Manor. They lived at Morcott Hall, then called Overtoun Hall. [6] [5]
Morcott is a village and civil parish in the county of Rutland in the East Midlands of England. The population at the 2001 census was 329 falling slightly to 321 at the 2011 census. It is located about 7 miles (11 km) south-east of the county town of Oakham on the A47 and A6121 roads. A prominent reconstructed windmill can be seen from both East and West-bound approaches to Morcott along the A47.
The Church of St Andrew in Folkingham, Lincolnshire, England, is Grade I–listed Anglican church. Originating in the late 12th century, it was largely completed by the late 15th, with restorations carried out in 1825, 1858 and 1860. It has early Decorated style arcades and a mainly Early English chancel, with a Norman pier where there was an opening into a chantry chapel. On the south side of the church are the remains of stocks and a whipping-post.
