Stanislav Fischer

Stanislav Fischer (born 30 November 1936) is Czech astrophysicist and politician. He was Communist candidate for president in 1998 election. [1]

Biography

Fischer was born in Ledce on 30 November 1936. He studied Atomic physics at Charles University and Moscow State University. His scientific work focuses on Cosmic ray. [1] He became member of Communist party in 1957. [2]

Fischer ran for Senate in 1996 but wasn't elected. [2] Communist Party nominated him for president in 1998 Czech presidential election. Fischer received 31 electoral votes and came second but only Václav Havel advanced to the second round. [3] He participated in subsequent 1998 Czech legislative election and became Member of Chamber of Deputies.

Fischer became candidate for 1999 Prague 1 by-election. [4] Fischer received only 5.5% of votes and wasn't elected. [5]

A by-election for the Trutnov Senate seat in the Czech Republic was held over two rounds in January 2018. The first round was held on 5 and 6 January 2018, with the second round on 12 and 13 January. The front-runners in the election were Jan Sobotka, supported by right-wing parties, and Jiří Hlavatý, the candidate of ANO 2011. Both of these candidates qualified for the second round held on 12 and 13 January 2018, which was won by Sobotka with 67% of votes.

Michaela Blahová and Tomáš Goláň advanced to second round. The election was surprisingly won by Tomáš Goláň. Voter turnout was very low.

Election of the President of the Senate of the Czech Republic was held on 19 February 2020 following death of incumbent President Jaroslav Kubera. Civic Democratic Party nominated Miloš Vystrčil for the position of the new Senate President while the Mayors and Independents nominated the acting President Jiří Růžička. Vystrčil won the election with 52 votes against Růžička's 21 votes.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2020 Teplice by-election</span>

A by-election for the Teplice Senate seat in the Czech Republic was held in 2020, following the death of Jaroslav Kubera. The election, originally scheduled for 27 and 28 March 2020, was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the Czech Republic. The first round was eventually held on 5 and 6 June 2020. Hynek Hanza received the highest number of votes and advanced to a runoff, in which he defeated Zdeněk Bergman and became the new Senator.
