Florence Beatrice Price was an American classical composer, pianist, organist and music teacher. Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, Price was educated at the New England Conservatory of Music, and was active in Chicago from 1927 until her death in 1953. Price is noted as the first African-American woman to be recognized as a symphonic composer, and the first to have a composition played by a major orchestra. Price composed over 300 works: four symphonies, four concertos, as well as choral works, art songs, chamber music and music for solo instruments. In 2009, a substantial collection of her works and papers was found in her abandoned summer home.

He was born in London and died in Castor, Cambridgeshire. He is sometimes credited as Gus MacNaughton. He appeared on stage from 1899, as a juvenile comedian with the Fred Karno company, the influential British music hall troupe. In films, McNaughton was often cast as the "fast-talking sidekick", and he appeared in several popular George Formby comedies of the 1930s and 1940s. Bert L. Rule composed and published his music, some of which became national hits, from 1913 to 1934. He worked in publishing houses, namely M. The author, Ian Whitcomb, by way of his mother, Eileen Whitcomb (née Eileen Mary Burningham; 1913–1998), was a grand nephew-in-law of John Edward Stanley Damerell Stevens. Put another way, he was a grand nephew of J.E.S.D. Stevens' second wife, Irene Victoria Stevens (aka Noel Damerell; aka Irenie Damerell; né Irene Victoria Burningham; 1887–1969).
