Starting Over, also known by its working title Startin' Over, is a 2011 extended play by American singer La Toya Jackson. The EP contains two top twenty-five U.S. Billboard Dance Club hits; "Just Wanna Dance" and "Free the World". The autobiographical EP is described as the soundtrack to her memoir Starting Over .
Work on Starting Over began in 2001 when Jackson was moved to write "Free the World" in the wake of the September 11 attacks. The song's positive reception from friends spurred on Jackson to write more songs. [1] The project was initially concieved as a 17-track LP titled Startin' Over. The album was completed in September 2002 and was to be released through Jackson's independent label Ja-Tail Records. It was issued as a promotional copy in 2003 in order to secure a distribution deal. [2] In February 2005, it was announced that Ja-Tail Records had secured a distribution deal with Bungalo Records, but the project's official release was beset with delays for years. [3] [4]
In 2004, Jackson released "Just Wanna Dance", which peaked at number 13 on the U.S. Billboard Dance Club chart. [5] In January 2005, she released "Free the World". [3] The title track, "Starting Over", was recorded in 2006; the song was used as a jingle for Australian beverage maker Star Ice. [2] In early 2007, Ja-Tail released "I Don't Play That", based on Jackson's experiences on the CBS reality series Armed and Famous . In 2009, Jackson released "Home" as a charity single to benefit AIDS Project Los Angeles. "I Don't Play That" and "Home" are not included on the EP.
The EP's title is a reference to the six years Jackson spent out of the public's view in order to rebuild her life after divorcing manager Jack Gordon. [1] [6] Starting Over includes autobiographical tracks about Jackson's relationship with Gordon. Several of them hint towards brutal beatings and plans to have her family killed. [7] The opening track, "Mafia Style" is a reference to Gordon's meetings with mobsters on New York's Mulberry Street. According to Jackson, "I was hearing a whole lot that I probably shouldn't have been hearing. I was the only girl, and they called me 'the kid', because these were older men and they would say, 'Is the kid going to talk?' and [Gordon] would always say, 'No, the kid doesn't talk,' because I would always say, 'I know nothing about nothing.'" Starting Over was digitally released on June 21, 2011 to online music retailers, to coincide with the same-titled book. The EP's title track was first previewed on Jackson's official YouTube channel at the end of May. [8] A remix of "Starting Over" by Vibelicious was played during Jackson's Live and Uncensored Stickam event on July 31, 2011. She performed "Starting Over" on the September 4, 2011 episode of Mexican television series La Academia . [9]

La Toya Yvonne Jackson is an American singer and television personality. The fifth child and middle daughter of the Jackson family, Jackson first gained recognition on the family's variety television series, The Jacksons, on CBS between 1976 and 1977. Thereafter, she saw success as a solo recording artist under multiple record labels in the 1980s and 1990s, including Polydor, Sony Music and RCA, where she released nine studio albums over the course of 15 years. Her most successful releases in the United States were her self-titled debut album (1980) and the 1984 single "Heart Don't Lie". Jackson's other songs include "If You Feel the Funk", "Bet'cha Gonna Need My Lovin'", "Hot Potato", "You're Gonna Get Rocked!", and "Sexbox". Another one of Jackson's songs, "Just Say No" from her fifth album was composed for US first lady Nancy Reagan and Reagan administration's anti-drug campaign.
"Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" is a song by American singer-songwriter Michael Jackson recorded for his sixth studio album Thriller (1982). It is the opening track of the album and was released as its fourth single on May 9, 1983, by Epic Records. It was written and co-produced by Jackson and produced by Quincy Jones. The lyrics pertain to strangers spreading rumors to start an argument for no good reason. "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" evokes the disco sound of Jackson's previous studio album, Off the Wall, released in 1979. The song is characterized by a complex rhythm arrangement and a distinctive horn arrangement.
Jack Leon Gordon, also known as Samuel Isaac Gordon and Clifford William Johnson, was an American businessman and entertainment manager. Gordon was the manager and husband of American singer–songwriter La Toya Jackson. Gordon also served as the manager of American tabloid subject later turned porn actor John Wayne Bobbitt. Gordon died of cancer on April 19, 2005, at age 65.

The E.N.D. World Tour was the third concert tour by American hip hop group Black Eyed Peas, in support of their fifth studio album The E.N.D. (2009). The tour began in Japan on September 15, 2009, with shows also performed in Australia and New Zealand in 2009. The group toured in North America starting in February 2010, with dates also planned for Europe starting in Dublin, Ireland in May. The group performed 2 shows in Paradise, Nevada at the end of 2009 as a warm up to their extensive North American tour. The tour was also expected to reach South America and more parts of Asia during 2010. It is the group's biggest tour production-wise to date, with the group's female vocalist Fergie stating that they are "trying to up [their] game" and the shows will "utilize a lot of the technology that's out there". "Home" is a sentimental ballad by La Toya Jackson which first appeared on the 2003 promotional copy her album Startin' Over. Jackson released the single on July 28, 2009 in dedication to her younger brother, Michael Jackson, who died on June 25. All proceeds will go to AIDS Project Los Angeles, one of Michael's favorite charities.
