Stefano Sposetti (born 22 December 1958) is a Swiss amateur astronomer and a prolific discoverer of minor planets. [2] [3] He lives in Gnosca, in the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland in the Ticino Alps, where the Gnosca Observatory is located.

Sposetti took images of 2004 FH, an Aten asteroid that made a sub-lunar flyby of Earth. [1] In addition, he detects the optical counterparts of gamma-ray bursts and conducts transit photometry on exoplanets at his observatory. [4]

As of 2019, Sposetti's discoveries include 164 minor planets (numbered only). The Minor Planet Center ranks him 70th in the list of all-time, worldwide discoverers. [5] Asteroid 22354 Sposetti has been named after him. [6]

The Observatory of Turin is an astronomical observatory owned and operated by Italy's National Institute for Astrophysics. It is located on the top of a hill in the town of Pino Torinese near Turin, in the north Italian Piedmont region. The observatory was founded in 1759. At Pino Torinese, several asteroid discoveries were made by Italian astronomer Luigi Volta in the late 1920s and early 1930s. The asteroid 2694 Pino Torinese was named after the observatory's location.

1313 Berna, provisional designation 1933 QG, is a background asteroid and synchronous binary system from the Eunomian region in the central asteroid belt, approximately 14 kilometers in diameter. It was discovered on 24 August 1933, by Belgian astronomer Sylvain Arend at the Uccle Observatory in Belgium. The assumed S-type asteroid has a longer-than average rotation period of 25.5 hours and is likely elongated in shape. It was named for the Swiss capital of Bern. The discovery of an 11-kilometer-sized companion was announced in February 2004.
