Stephan Kuhl (born 27 March 1968) is a German former badminton player. [1] Kuhl competed in two events at the 1992 Summer Olympics. [2] [3] He served as the national badminton team's women's singles coach until 2013. [4]

Career

In 1990, Kuhl reached the finals of the men's singles event and the men's doubles event at the Swiss Open. He lost to his compatriot Michael Keck in the men's singles final but managed to beat Keck with his partner Stefan Frey in an all German men's doubles final. [5]

In 1992, he competed in the 1992 Summer Olympics. In the men's singles event, he lost in the first round to Jürgen Koch. In the men's doubles event, he and his partner, Stefan Frey were beaten by the British duo Nick Ponting and Dave Wright. [6]

Kuhl also won a bronze medal in men's doubles with Frey at the 1992 European Badminton Championships. [7]

Christoffel Cornelius Dednam is a badminton player from South Africa. Dednam was the gold medallists at the 2003 All-Africa Games in the mixed doubles event, and in 2007 in the men's doubles event. He competed at the 2004, 2008 Olympic Games, and at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. Dednam played badminton at the 2004 Summer Olympics in men's singles, losing in the round of 32 to Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand. He also competed in mixed doubles with partner Antoinette Uys. Victoria Wright is a former Bulgarian badminton player, and later represented France. She competed for Bulgaria at the first edition of the badminton at the Summer Olympics in Barcelona. In Bulgaria, she won nine times National Championships title, 4 in the women's singles and 5 in the women's doubles event. She competed for France at the 2004 Summer Olympics in the mixed doubles event partnered with the former Bulgarian player Svetoslav Stoyanov. They lost to Jens Eriksen and Mette Schjoldager of Denmark in the round of 32. Wright won the French National Championships title, 2 times in the women's doubles event partnered with Tatiana Vattier, and 3 in the mixed doubles event with Stoyanov.

Badminton had its debut as an official medal sport at the 1992 Summer Olympics. It was held from 28 July to 4 August 1992. Four events were held in the first competition of the sport: men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, and women's doubles. Badminton was contested in the Pavelló de la Mar Bella. 36 nations entered competitors, with a total of 177 entrants. Asian nations won fifteen of the sixteen medals, with their dominance being broken only by Denmark's bronze medal in the men's singles.

Rudy Gunawan won various international championships, both in the men's doubles and mixed doubles events. He has paired up with players such as Eddy Hartono, Rosiana Tendean, Bambang Suprianto, and Ricky Subagja. He was on the Thomas Cup team of Indonesia five times but only won gold in 1994 and 1996. In addition, he helped strengthen the Indonesian team in the race for 1989, Sudirman Cup.
