Stephen "Steve" Wasil (born April 14, 1984) is a former Arena football quarterback who played for the Muskegon Thunder, Texas Copperheads, Albany Firebirds, Alabama Vipers, Kansas City Command and Tampa Bay Storm. He is currently the Offensive Coordinator at Albion College.

College career

Wasil attended Albion College, where he was a member of the football team. He still holds the records for all-time most passing yards in a game (412), most passing yards in a season (3313), and most touchdowns in a season (33). In 2005, he led the Britons to a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championship and was named the league's Most Valuable Offensive Player.

Professional career

Muskegon Thunder

In 2007, Wasil began playing professionally for the Muskegon Thunder of the Continental Indoor Football League. He led the Thunder to a 4–8 record, but they lost the qualifying game to officially make the playoffs. He was named team MVP.

Texas Copperheads

In 2008, Wasil moved up to af2 as member of the Texas Copperheads. He played in eight games for the 2–14 Copperheads, completing 122-of-264 attempts for 1,205 yards (49 long), 15 touchdowns, 11 interceptions and rushed 12 times for 41 yards and 1 touchdown.

Albany Firebirds

In 2009, Wasil was again in af2 as member of the Albany Firebirds. The team went 7–5 with Wasil as the starter. The team sputtered with Wasil on the injured reserve list, going 0–4, and failing to qualify for the playoffs.

Alabama Vipers

In 2010, Wasil finally made it to the Arena Football League as member of the Alabama Vipers. He was the backup quarterback for the season behind Kevin Eakin. He started in place of Eakin in Week 7 against the Orlando Predators, throwing for 200 yards and two touchdowns.

Kansas City Command

In 2011, Wasil signed with the Kansas City Command. He took over as the Command starting quarterback in June, [1] and threw 26 touchdowns and 1,385 yards. He re-signed with the Command for the 2012 season, but was later traded to the Tampa Bay Storm in exchange for 2011 Game Tape Exchange Defensive Lineman of the Year, Clifford Dukes. [2]

Tampa Bay Storm

Wasil played the 2012 season with the Storm, leading them to an 8–10 record, failing to make it to the playoffs, but it was Wasil's most impressive season as a professional, throwing 71 touchdowns and 3,666 yards.

Coaching career

Wasil retired from the AFL in 2013, after initially re-signing with the Storm. [4] Wasil announced that he would be starting his coaching career as the quarterbacks coach for his alma mater, Albion College. [4]

He won ArenaBowl XVII with the Storm in 2003. He retired from playing after the 2007 season, and is currently the offensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Storm. Prior to this role, he was quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator at Iona College in New Rochelle, New York.

Shane Stafford is a former arena football quarterback and coach. He was signed by the Tallahassee Thunder as a street free agent in 2000. He played college football at Connecticut.

The Spokane Shock were a professional indoor American football team based in Spokane, Washington, that played their home games at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena. The team was initially a member of arenafootball2 (af2), the Shock won division titles in all four seasons and ArenaCups in 2006 and 2009 before they joined the Arena Football League (AFL) in its 2010 relaunch. The team advanced to the playoffs three times after joining the AFL, winning ArenaBowl XXIII in their first season, making them the only arena football franchise to win both the ArenaCup and the ArenaBowl.

The Daytona Beach ThunderBirds were an arena football team based in Daytona Beach, Florida. They were founded in 2005 as the Daytona Beach Hawgs playing in the National Indoor Football League. After being released by the NY Jets I 2005 Eakin then signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the CFL and spent 2 seasons there before being signed by the Buffalo Bills and spending half the season on their practice squad. Brett Dietz is American football coach and former quarterback. He is the head football coach at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, a position he has held since 2020. Dietz played college football at Hanover College in Hanover, Indiana and professionally with several teams including the Turku Trojans in Finland Vaahteraliiga and in Arena Football League (AFL), Af2, and the National Indoor Football League (NIFL) for the Cincinnati Marshals, Louisville Fire, Tampa Bay Storm and California Redwoods.

Clifford Dukes is a former American arena football defensive lineman. He played college football at Michigan State from 2000 to 2004. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by the St. Louis Rams in 2005. Dukes has also been a member of the New Orleans Saints. After not having a chance to play in the NFL, Dukes signed with the Tampa Bay Storm of the AFL in 2008. In 2010, he saw his first chance for real playing time with the Storm. As a result, he was named to the All-Arena team in 2010. In 2011, he led the league with 12.5 sacks and was named the 2011 Game Tape Exchange Defensive Lineman of the Year. Daniel Aaron Southwick is an American football quarterback who is a free agent. He played college football for BYU, Oregon State, Dixie State, and Occidental. The 2010 Alabama Vipers season was the 10th season for the franchise, and the first under their current name, as well as the first in the Arena Football League. The team was coached by Dean Cokinos and played their home games at Von Braun Center. The Vipers failed to make the playoffs after posting a 7–9 record and finishing 5th in the American Conference.

The 2010 Tulsa Talons season was the 10th season for the franchise, and the first in the Arena Football League, coming from the AF2, which dissolved following the 2009 season. The team was coached by Mitch Allner and played their home games at BOK Center. Finishing first in the Southwest Division, the Talons were the only team from their division to make the playoffs, but lost 38–68 at home to the Tampa Bay Storm in the conference semifinals.

NAPA Auto Parts ArenaBowl XXIII was an arena football game between the National Conference champion, Spokane Shock and the American Conference champion, Tampa Bay Storm. The Spokane Shock won the game successfully defending ArenaCup X of the former af2. The game was played on August 20, 2010, and was held at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena in Spokane, Washington, the first non-neutral site since 2004. The game was shown live on the NFL Network, as well as a tape delay on Eurosport 2. The corporate sponsor was NAPA Auto Parts.

He attended Riverdale High School in Riverdale, Georgia. Hines was also a member of the South Georgia Wildcats, Chattahoochee Valley Vipers, Spokane Shock, Bossier–Shreveport Battle Wings and Alabama Vipers.

The Albany Firebirds are a professional arena football team as an inaugural team in the third iteration of the Arena Football League. The team is based in Albany, New York. Home games are played at the MVP Arena. This is the third time the Firebirds name has been used, first from 1990 to 2004 with the original Albany and Indiana Firebirds from the Arena Football League, and the Albany Firebirds of the af2 in 2009.
