Steven Keith Young [1] (born May 17,1969) is a Canadian politician who served as the Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta representing the electoral district of Edmonton-Riverview from 2012 until his defeat in 2015. [2] He was first elected April 23,2012,and subsequently appointed to the role of the Chief Government Whip.
Young was born in Calgary,Alberta and after moving to the Edmonton area grew up on an acreage south east of Sherwood Park in Strathcona County.
Hockey was a strong interest and saw him play Major Junior Hockey in the Western Hockey League from 1986 to 1990. The New York Islanders selected Young in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft in round 5,90th overall. [3]
Young attended the University of Alberta and played for the Alberta Golden Bears Hockey Team. [4] While there,he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education (B.Ed.),won three Canada West League Championships (1990–91,1991–92,1992–93), [5] and a CIS National Title (1991–92). [6]

Hayley Wickenheiser is a Canadian former ice hockey player, resident physician and assistant general manager for the Toronto Maple Leafs. She was the first woman to play full-time professional men’s hockey in a position other than goalie. Wickenheiser was a member of Canada women's national ice hockey team for 23 years, from 1994 until announcing her retirement on January 13, 2017, and is the team's career points leader with 168 goals and 211 assists in 276 games. She represented Canada at the Winter Olympics five times, capturing four gold and one silver medal and twice being named tournament MVP, and one time at the Summer Olympics in softball, and is a seven-time winner of the world championships. She is tied with teammates Caroline Ouellette and Jayna Hefford for the record for the most gold medals of any Canadian Olympian, and is widely considered to be the greatest female ice hockey player of all time. On February 20, 2014, Wickenheiser was elected to the International Olympic Committee's Athletes' Commission. In 2019 she was named to the Hockey Hall of Fame, in her first year of eligibility.

Randall John Gregg is a Canadian physician and former professional ice hockey defenceman who spent 10 seasons in the National Hockey League. He is best known for his time with the Edmonton Oilers, where he spent most of his career and won five Stanley Cups, in 1984, 1985, 1987, 1988 and 1990.
Judy Diduck is a retired Canadian ringette and ice hockey player. Diduck was born in Edmonton, Alberta, but grew up in Sherwood Park, Alberta. She competed in the first World Ringette Championships in 1990 for Team Alberta who became the first world champions in the sport. In 2005, she was inducted into the Ringette Canada Hall of Fame. Diduck is also a former member of the Canada women's national ice hockey team.

The Dr. Randy Gregg Award is presented annually by U Sports to reward excellence in the student-athlete. The Canadian University ice hockey player who receives this award has exhibited outstanding achievement in ice hockey, academics, and community involvement.
The Alberta Sports Hall of Fame is a hall of fame and museum in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada, dedicated to the preservation and history of sports within the province. It was created in 1957 by the Alberta Amateur Athletic Union (AAAU). The museum was eventually taken over by Sport Alberta in 1973 when the AAAU ceased operations. It has been maintained by the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame and Museum Society since 1997. The first permanent display for the Hall of Fame was established in Edmonton in 1962. The museum relocated between Edmonton and Calgary on numerous occasions until settling in Red Deer in 1999.
