Steven Kronauer is an American conductor and tenor known for directing the Young Men's Ensemble at the Los Angeles Children's Chorus, founding and directing Artes Vocales of Los Angeles, and his ten years with the Los Angeles Opera. [1] Kronauer holds a doctorate from University of California, Los Angeles in choral and opera conducting and is also fluent in German. [2]
Kronauer is of German descent. He attended Interlochen Arts Academy, graduating in 1983. He then went on to complete two master's degrees, Vocal Performance and Choral Conducting, at the University of Michigan by 1990, and in 2006, Kronauer received his doctorate in choral and opera conducting from the University of California, Los Angeles.
Kronauer traveled to Cuba in June 2015 to conduct the Los Angeles Children's Chorus's Young Men's Ensemble on tour. He told the International Business Times , "I think music is something that bonds everyone, and the glory of the opportunity to share with music with other choirs from Cuba, and to share through the hearts and soul of music, and learning about the Cuban music for us, and perhaps (for them) learning about the American music we've brought as well, it's a wonderful opportunity to be together." A choir ( KWIRE; also known as a chorale or chorus is a musical ensemble of singers. Choral music, in turn, is the music written specifically for such an ensemble to perform or in other words is the music performed by the ensemble. Choirs may perform music from the classical music repertoire, which spans from the medieval era to the present, or popular music repertoire. The Ragazzi Boys Chorus is a boys' and young men's chorus in the San Francisco Bay Area. The chorus was formed in 1987 with six boys, and it now includes more than 250 singers from 100 schools, including the counties of San Mateo, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz. The chorus participated in the San Francisco Symphony's recording of Perséphone, which was included in the Symphony's album that won a Grammy Award for Best Classical Album in 2000.[1]
Odaline de la Martinez is a Cuban-American composer and conductor, currently residing in the UK. Wallace Harris Long, Jr. is an American choral conductor, educator, and vocalist. He was director of choral activities at Willamette University from 1983 to 2020, founded the Willamette Master Chorus and conducted the group from 1985 to 1998, and was a member of Male Ensemble Northwest. Long has been called "a world-class conductor" and "the ultimate professor, scholar and community-builder".
Howard Shelton Swan was an American choral conductor, tenor, music educator, and writer on music. A highly influential figure in American choral music during the 20th century, Swan was sometimes referred to as the "Dean of American Choral Directors" during his lifetime. A choral director and professor of voice at Occidental College from 1934 through 1971, his choirs at Occidental gained international critical acclaim. Conductor Robert Shaw stated about Swan's choral work at Occidental that it was "the most distinguished and varied choral repertoire at the highest level of performance in American collegiate history."
