[3] He has also discussed his Latino heritage and his struggles with poverty. [4] Romo has credited his childhood love of television and books as giving him the tools he needed to escape his difficult start in life. [5]

In a personal essay for HuffPost, Romo wrote about his coming out experience. He also revealed more details about his dysfunctional family and childhood, including that he “dropped out” of school in the eighth grade before scrambling to get into college, which he successfully did as he’s stated elsewhere that he attended Texas A&M University. [12] In the summer of 2022, NBC announced Romo would join full-time as the newest correspondent for the network based in New York City. [13]
