The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) is a college athletic conference affiliated with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division II level, which operates in the western Midwestern United States. Nine of its members are in Minnesota, with three members in South Dakota, two members in North Dakota, and one member in Nebraska. It was founded in 1932. With the recent NSIC expansion, the original six member schools have been reunited.

Teenage boys from over 65 towns surrounding and including Middletown attend Xavier; despite the fact that students commute from a very broad area all students, their parents, faculty, and staff, regardless of how far away they live from the school, are referred to by Xavier officials as "The Xavier Community".

Fred T. Foard High School is a public, coeducational high school located in the community of Propst Crossroads, ten miles (16 km) west of Newton, North Carolina, United States. The school is part of the Catawba County Schools system. Foard has been designated a school of distinction by the state of North Carolina for academic progress. The school opened in 1953 and was named after Fred T. Foard, a medical doctor in the area.

He won the NCAA wrestling championships in 2006 and 2007 at 285 pounds and finished third at the 2006 World University Championships at 120 kilograms. Eddie Griffin is a former American collegiate athletic director and collegiate wrestling coach. He served as the athletic director at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Oklahoma from 2017 to 2020. Prior to this Griffin served as the athletic director at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, and the head wrestling coach at Central Oklahoma, and Clemson University.
Matt Hanutke Pittsville, Wisconsin high school and college wrestler is one of only 18 wrestlers who have won four State individual titles. Hanutke was the first wrestler in Wisconsin state history to go undefeated through his entire high school career (117-0). He was a 4 time All-American at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. In 2007 he was inducted into the Wisconsin Wrestling Hall of Fame.
