Stridulum is the sixth release and second EP by American singer-songwriter Zola Jesus, released on March 9, 2010 by Sacred Bones Records. [1] [2] It was expanded into the full-length album Stridulum II , released later in 2010.
In August 2017, the EP was reissued into an LP, which complies the EPs Valusia and Stridulum. [3]
With its more sophisticated sound, Stridulum was still self-recorded over two hurried weeks between college semesters in Danilova's bedroom, rushed so it could be released in time for the 2010 South by Southwest festival. [4] No assistants were involved, except for friend Alex DeGroot who helped to record her vocals and mix the songs. [5] "I would sit at my bed with my synths, make a beat and then layer and layer over it, then fall asleep right next to my synth and do it again the next morning", Zola Jesus said in an interview. [4] In an interview with music blog Rock of the Arts she said:
The EP was a really rushed process. I had about only a month to conceptualize, write, and record everything, since we wanted it to be out before SXSW. I had to put a lot of faith in instinct and not over-think so much. But in the end I believe it worked for the best. It's really a very genuine, innate piece of work. My grandfather passed away while I was making this record so that also played a part in the feel of the songs. [5]
The EP's subject matter was described as 'macabre'; Danilova, who rejects the "goth" label, often uses themes of death and the Apocalypse. "I just really like that desperation that comes with the end of the world, and the aesthetics of everything being chaos, and everyone just running around in anarchy and crying and throwing up over each other", she commented. [4]
Next to Zola Jesus' debut album, Stridulum was described as "an infinitely grander EP that rumbles in deference to The Cure's Pornography and suggests Björk or a moodier Bat for Lashes in its towering production". [4] Pitchfork Media placed it at number 37 on its list "The Top 50 Albums of 2010". [6]

Queens of the Stone Age is the debut studio album by American rock band Queens of the Stone Age, released by Loosegroove Records on September 22, 1998. It was primarily written and recorded in April 1998 by founding member Josh Homme and his former Kyuss bandmate Alfredo Hernández, with Hernández playing drums and Homme singing and playing the rest of the instruments. Homme also produced the album alongside Joe Barresi. Bassist Nick Oliveri, also a former member of Kyuss, would join the band by the time of the album's release. Queens of the Stone Age received generally positive reviews from critics, who placed it in the stoner rock genre and drew comparisons to krautrock bands such as Neu! and Can, as well as to Kyuss and other metal bands.

Nika Roza Danilova, known professionally by her stage name Zola Jesus, is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer. Her music has been noted for combining elements of electronic, industrial, classical, and goth. Born in Phoenix, Arizona, she spent her formative years in northern Wisconsin, where she began writing and recording music independently while attending college. During her second year of studies, she released two singles through the independent label Sacred Bones, followed by two EPs. Her debut album, The Spoils, was released in 2009.
Former Ghosts is a project of Freddy Ruppert, former member of This Song Is a Mess But So Am I, with loose collaborations from multiple people including Xiu Xiu frontman Jamie Stewart, Zola Jesus originator Nika Roza Danilova, Yasmine Kittles of Tearist, Annie Lewandowski of Powerdove, and Carla Bozulich. Past live incarnations have included Jherek Bischoff and Sam Mickens. Ruppert is the lead songwriter on this project. The title of the debut, Fleurs, is a reference to the white-flowered iris.

So Outta Reach is an EP by American indie rock musician Kurt Vile, released on November 8, 2011 on Matador Records. Produced by both John Agnello and Kurt Vile & the Violators, the EP's tracks were initially recorded during sessions for Smoke Ring for My Halo (2011) and reworked in the summer of 2011.

The album title Taiga is the Russian word for boreal forests. A music video was released for the album's first single "Dangerous Days". The music video was directed by Timothy Saccenti and filmed in Hoh Rainforest, Washington.
Okovi is the fifth studio album by American singer-songwriter Zola Jesus. It was released on September 8, 2017 by Sacred Bones Records. The album was written in Danilova's hometown in Wisconsin, where she retreated after dealing with depression and dark times experienced by her close friends.
Boy Harsher is an American electronic music group, formed in 2013 in Savannah, Georgia. Currently based in Northampton, Massachusetts, the band consists of vocalist Jae Matthews and producer Augustus Muller. The band has amassed a cult following since their formation, and their song "Pain" has become an underground hit. Matthews and Muller own and run the label Nude Club, which is exclusively devoted to Boy Harsher and related artists.
Molchat Doma is a Belarusian dark wave/post-punk band from Minsk, formed in 2017. Their current lineup consists of Egor Shkutko (vocals), Roman Komogortsev, and Pavel Kozlov. Their style is influenced by 1980s Russian rock music and has been described as post-punk, new wave, synth-pop, and cold wave.
Jacqueline Castel is a French-Canadian film director, screenwriter, and curator based in New York City. Castel's work has screened at the Sundance Film Festival, South by Southwest, the Sitges Film Festival, and the International Film Festival Rotterdam, and she has written for and directed such established auteurs as John Carpenter and Jim Jarmusch, and has collaborated with David Lynch and Stella McCartney. She is the in-house director for the record label Sacred Bones Records, and has directed music videos for Zola Jesus, The Soft Moon, and Pharmakon.
Live at Roadburn 2018 is the first live album by American singer-songwriter Zola Jesus, recorded at the 2018 Roadburn Festival in Tilburg, Netherlands. It was made available to stream and purchase via Bandcamp on May 1, 2020, before expanding to other digital platforms on May 8, 2020. It is scheduled to be released in physical formats–including several variations of limited edition vinyl, as well as compact disc–on June 26, 2020, by Sacred Bones Records.
