Studywiz Learning Environment, also known as Studywiz, is a comprehensive virtual learning environment that includes a learning management system. Studywiz provides a platform for teachers to create, mark, and share content such as tests, assignments, embedded video, audio resources, and file resources with students. StudyWiz was developed and supported by the eponymous Australian-based studywiz company, which is part of Etech Group.

Features

Studywiz, a comprehensive Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), offers an online portfolios for students' academic and extracurricular achievement as well as an online storage system. It also contains a mobile interface for handheld devices such as the iPod. Its content is compatible with SCORM.[ clarification needed ]. The system also has ClickView digital video, an activity search, an individual student blog system, discussion boards, monitored chat rooms and a messaging system. [1]

For instructors, the system has a student assessment and marking system, attendance tracking, and parental login for visibility. The "Assignment" section allows teachers to upload worksheets and tasks for students to view online and download, then complete and upload. A teacher can set the due date, assessment criteria, and outcomes. This can then be published to custom groups, [2] classes, other students, and marks can also be shared to parents. A calendar can be set up for individual students and teachers, groups, classes, and for the whole school.

Studywiz Mobile

Studywiz Mobile is the interface for Studywiz, designed for portable handheld devices. [3] It received widespread acclaim from schools and won the 2009 CODiE Award for Best Mobile Software Solution. [4]

ePortfolio

ePortfolio is an online portfolio system built into later versions of Studywiz. It enables students to generate, store, and publish school and extracurricular achievements online. From here, users can update, maintain, and export their content.

The ePortfolio features Action Plans, which enable students to collaborate with their teachers to set personalized course of action for learning about the topics that interest them. Students can create records to store information about their achievements, add evidence (files or links to websites) and reflections (thoughts and feedback about their achievements). These records can be organized using customizable templates that guide the students in storing and presenting their achievements. Students can curate their records into collections, which can be reviewed and verified by teachers.

Educational technology is the combined use of computer hardware, software, and educational theory and practice to facilitate learning. When referred to with its abbreviation, "EdTech", it often refers to the industry of companies that create educational technology. Technology integration is defined as the use of technology to enhance and support the educational environment. Technology integration in the classroom can also support classroom instruction by creating opportunities for students to complete assignments on the computer rather than with normal pencil and paper. In a larger sense, technology integration can also refer to the use of an integration platform and application programming interface (API) in the management of a school, to integrate disparate SaaS applications, databases, and programs used by an educational institution so that their data can be shared in real-time across all systems on campus, thus supporting students' education by improving data quality and access for faculty and staff.

Push email is an email system that provides an always-on capability, in which when new email arrives at the mail delivery agent (MDA), it is immediately, actively transferred (pushed) by the MDA to the mail user agent (MUA), also called the email client, so that the end-user can see incoming email immediately. Mobile blogging is a method of publishing to a website or blog from a mobile phone or other handheld device. A moblog helps habitual bloggers to post write-ups directly from their phones even when on the move. Mobile blogging has been made possible by technological convergence, as bloggers have been able to write, record and upload different media all from a single, mobile device. At the height of its growth in 2006, mobile blogging experienced 70,000 blog creations a day and 29,100 blog posts an hour. Between 2006 and 2010, blogging among teens declined from 28% to 14%, while blogging among adults over 30 increased from 7% to 11%. However, the growing number of multi-platform blogging apps has increased mobile blogging popularity in recent years creating a brand new market that many celebrities, regular bloggers and specialists are utilizing to widen their social reach.

Mobile-assisted language learning (MALL) is language learning that is assisted or enhanced through the use of a handheld mobile device.

Mobile translation is any electronic device or software application that provides audio translation. The concept includes any handheld electronic device that is specifically designed for audio translation. It also includes any machine translation service or software application for hand-held devices, including mobile telephones, Pocket PCs, and PDAs. Mobile translation provides hand-held device users with the advantage of instantaneous and non-mediated translation from one human language to another, usually against a service fee that is, nevertheless, significantly smaller than a human translator charges.

E-scape was a project run by the Technology Education Research Unit (TERU) at Goldsmiths University of London, England that developed an approach to the authentic assessment of creativity and collaboration based on open-ended but structured activities. As such it is an alternative to traditional assessment methodologies.

Social learning tools are tools used for pedagogical and andragogical purposes that utilize social software and/or social media in order to facilitate learning through interactions between individuals and systems. The idea of setting up "social learning tools" is to make education more convenient and widespread. It also allows an interaction between users and/or the software which can bring a different aspect to learning. People can acquire knowledge by distance learning tools, for instance, Facebook, Twitter, Khan Academy and so on. Social learning tools may mediate in formal or informal learning environments to help create connections between learners, instructors and information. These connections form dynamic knowledge networks. Social learning tools are used in schools for teaching/learning and in businesses for training. Within a school environment, the use of social learning tools can affect not only the user (student) but his/her caretaker as well as his/her instructor. It brings a different approach to the traditional way of learning which affects the student and his/her support circle. Companies also use social learning tools. They used them to improve knowledge transfer within departments and across teams. Businesses use a variety of these tools to create a social learning environment. They are also used in company settings to help improve team work, problem solving, and performance in stressful situations.
