Suddala Hanmanthu was a noted Indian poet of the mid 1900s. [1] He wrote songs like Palleturi pillagada... pasulagaase monagaada... (from the movie Maa Bhoomi). [2]
Suddala Hanmanthu was born in Paladugu village, Mothkur mandal. Later, he moved to suddala village of Gundala Mandal in Yadadri bhuvanagiri district, Telangana State in India.
Suddala Hanmanthu's poetry inspired the people of Telangana to participate in the communist-led peasant struggle against the oppressive rule of feudal lords and the Nizam. Along with his contemporary leader Gurram Yadagiri Reddy, a famous communist leader, he fought against Doras and Gadi's rule.
This struggle was known in Indian history as the Telangana Rebellion. His themes were freedom from the bonded labour known as Vetti Chakiri, democracy, liberation, equality and communism.
His Telugu folk song, Palletoori Pillagada, mobilised the people of his region. It was included in the movie, Maa Bhoomi (1980). The movie Rajanna , starring Nagarjuna is inspired by Sri Suddala Hanumanthu's life.
Suddala Hanmanthu was married to Janakamma and his son Suddala Ashok Teja is a contemporary lyricist. [3] He earned fame for his Telugu songs and was awarded the National Film Award for Best Lyrics in the year 2003. [4] They also had another two sons and a daughter.[ citation needed ] Famous Telugu actor Uttej is his grandson, son of his daughter.
Akkineni Nagarjuna Rao, known mononymously as Nagarjuna, is an Indian actor, film producer, television presenter, and entrepreneur. Nagarjuna has acted predominantly in Telugu cinema, along with a few Hindi and Tamil films. He received two National Film Awards namely, for Ninne Pelladata (1996), which he produced won the Best Feature Film in Telugu and a Special Mention as actor for Annamayya (1997); ten state Nandi Awards, and three Filmfare Awards South.

Burgula Ramakrishna Rao was the second and last Chief Minister of the erstwhile Hyderabad State. Daasarathi krishnamacharya, popularly known as Daasarathi, also spelled as Daasharathi was an Indian Telugu poet and writer. Daasarathi holds the titles Abhyudhaya kavi and Kalaprapurna. He was also the recipient of Sahitya Academy Award for his poetic work book Timiramto Samaram in 1974. He was also chosen as Aasthana Kavi of the Andhra Pradesh Government.
Kothapalli Jayashankar, popularly known as Professor Jayashankar, was an Indian academic and social activist. He was a leading ideologue of the Telangana Movement. He fought for a separate state beginning in 1952. He often stated that unequal distribution of river water was the root cause of the separate Telangana movement. He was the former Vice-Chancellor of Kakatiya University and an activist in the Separate Telangana Movement.
Maa Bhoomi is a 1979 Indian Telugu-language social problem film directed by Goutam Ghose in his debut. The film is produced by B. Narsing Rao, who also wrote the film with Goutam Ghose. The film is based on the novel Jab Khet Jage by Krishan Chander on the Telangana Rebellion in Hyderabad State. It depicts a typical life of villagers under feudalistic society in the Telangana region. The film features Sai Chand, Rami Reddy and Telangana Shakuntala in pivotal roles. The plot follows Ramayya, a landless peasant who joins the Telangana Rebellion of 1948.
Gollapudi Maruti Rao was an Indian actor, writer and director known for his works in Telugu cinema, Telugu theatre and Telugu Literature. Rao acted in over 250 Telugu films in a variety of roles. His noted literary works and plays, like Rendu Rellu Aaru, Patita, Karuninchani Devatalu, Mahanatudu, Kaalam Venakku Tirigindi, Aasayaalaku Sankellu, won numerous State Awards.
Gorati Venkataiah, better known as Goreti Venkanna, is an Indian poet and singer known for his works in Telugu literature. He became popular after his song "Palle Kanneru Peduthundo" in the film Kubusam. He also acted as a judge for the folk song program Rela Re Rela on Star Maa. In November 2020, Goreti was nominated as a Member of Legislative Council (MLC) in Telangana. In 2021, he won the Sahitya Akademi Award in poetry category for his work Vallanki Taalam.
Dasaradhi Rangacharya, also spelled Dasarathi Rangacharya, was an Indian poet and writer in the Telugu language. He participated actively in the Telangana armed struggle against the rule of the Nizams. His writings incorporated the lifestyle of the people of Telangana under the rule of the Nizams. He was conferred with Kala Ratna award in 2006.

Andhra Pradesh, retrospectively referred to as United Andhra Pradesh, Undivided Andhra Pradesh, or Ummadi Andhra Pradesh, was a state in India formed by States Reorganisation Act, 1956 with Hyderabad as its capital and was reorganised by Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014. Gurram Yadagiri Reddy was a freedom fighter of Telangana rebellion and a veteran politician at Communist Party of India. He was elected as a member of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly three times. He represented Ramannapeta constituency from CPI. He was renowned freedom fighter during the Telangana peasants armed struggle at the time of the Nizam regime. Leaders from across the political spectrum remember Reddy as a simple and honest man “one who sent his children to government schools, never bought a car or a house” and a "role-model Communist”. He believed and followed communist ideology and moral philosophy until his last breath.
Nandini Sidda Reddy is a teacher, writer, poet, songwriter and social activist from the state of Telangana, India. He is known for promoting Telugu culture. Several of his songs have been featured in Telugu language films. He was one of the leaders of the Telangana movement to make Telangana a separate state from Andhra Pradesh, which took place in 2014. He was the first Chairman of the Telangana Sahitya Akademi.
Shaik Khaja Hassan, popularly known by his pen name Devi Priya, was an Indian Telugu-language poet and journalist known for his political satire. He was a recipient of the 2017 Sahitya Akademi Award for his work Gaali Rangu. Some of his famous works included Adhyakshaa Mannichandi, Gareebi Geetaalu, and Amma Chettu Chepa Chiluka.
