Verano de Escándalo is a major annual professional wrestling event in Mexico promoted by the Lucha Libre AAA World Wide (AAA) promotion. The show is as the name indicates a summer show, traditionally held in September. The first show was held in 1997 and since then twenty-two events have been held, the more recent ones generally presented on pay-per-view while the early shows were shown as Television specials on the Televisa channel. Verano de Escándalo is the first major show by AAA after their annual Triplemanía event, and generally features storylines or feuds stemming from that event. It is generally seen as the smallest of the five major shows AAA puts together every year. The most recent event was the 2023 event, the twenty-third overall Verano de Escándalo in the series.

José de Jesús Álvarez Gutierrez is a Mexican professional wrestler, better known by his ringname Joe Líder. He currently competes in Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide (AAA). He is known for being a former member of the tag team La Hermandad Extrema with Nicho el Millonario who, like himself, is one of several wrestlers to emerge from the independent circuit during the 1990s. Álvarez is also the real-life brother of Demoledor and had faced him on several occasions during his career, most notably, defeating him in their hometown in a "hair vs. hair" match at the Arena Victoria in January 2005.

The 1997 Verano de Escándalo was the first ever Verano de Escándalo professional wrestling show promoted by AAA. The show took place on September 14, 1997, in Tonalá, Jalisco, Mexico. The Main event featured a Steel Cage Elimination Match, Lucha de Apuestas which meant that the last man left in the cage would have his hair shaved off. The two teams in the cage match were Perro Aguayo, Perro Aguayo Jr. and Heavy Metal facing Sangre Chicana, El Picudo and El Cobarde II.

The 1998 Verano de Escándalo was the second annual Verano de Escandalo professional wrestling show promoted by AAA. The show took place on September 18, 1998, in Madero, Tamaulipas, Mexico. The main event featured steel cage match between the teams of Heavy Metal and Blue Demon Jr. and Kick Boxer and Abismo Negro. The stipulation of the main event was that if the team of Heavy Metal and Blue Demon Jr. lost referee Guicho Dominguez would be referee El Tirante's "slave" for a week. If Kick Boxer and Abismo Negro lost El Tirantes would be Guicho Dominguez's slave for a week.

The 2002 Verano de Escándalo was the sixth annual Verano de Escándalo professional wrestling show promoted by AAA. The show took place on September 16, 2002, in Naucalpan, Mexico, like the previous year'sevent. The main event featured a Luchas de Apuestas elimination match where the loser would have his hair shaved off. The participants were El Dandy, El Zorro, and Perro Aguayo Jr.

Verano de Escándalo 2003 was a series of major Lucha Libre or professional wrestling shows held by the Mexican wrestling promotion AAA over the summer of 2003. In previous and subsequent years AAA's Verano de Escándalo were a single event, but in 2003 it was a series of three shows held on August 31 (A), September 16 (B) and September 28 (C), 2003. The events featured a number of professional wrestling matches with different wrestlers involved in pre-existing scripted feuds or storylines. Wrestlers portrayed either villains or fan favorites as they competed in wrestling matches with predetermined outcomes.

The Main event featured a Domo De La Muerte cage match match where the last person in the cage would have his hair shaved off. The participants were the team of "Los Hell Brothers" along with El Zorro taking on the Black Family.

Verano de Escándalo (2010) was a major professional wrestling event produced by AAA, which took place on August 14, 2010. It was originally scheduled to take place at Arena Monterrey in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico but due to Nuevo León suffering damage from Hurricane Alex the show was moved to Plaza de Toros la Concordia in Orizaba, Veracruz. The show was the 14th show promoted under the Verano de Escándalo name. The title is Spanish for "Summer of Scandal" and has been AAA's annual summer show since 1997. It featured a double main event with the first match being a three way match for the AAA Mega Championship with reigning champion Dr. Wagner Jr. successfully defending against his brother Silver King and Vampiro. The other main event is a "AAA vs. Perros del Mal" six man tag team match pitting AAA representatives La Parka, Cibernético and El Mesias against Perros Perro Aguayo Jr., L.A. Park and Damián 666 which Los Perros del Mal won when Perro Aguayo Jr. pinned El Mesias. The show also saw the AAA Reina de Reinas Championship change hands as Mari Apache won the title from Sexy Star.

Briones grew up in Lima with his Chilean mother, Sybila Arredondo, widow of José María Arguedas. At the age of 15, in Peru, he entered the Armando Robles Godoy Film and Television School. In his early 20's, he moved to Santiago, Chile; although he had already taken film courses in Peru and workshops in France, he was determined to study with Héctor Ríos Henríquez, director of photography of El chacal de Nahueltoro.
