Orizzonti

Last updated

Orizzonti (lit. 'Horizons') is a section of the Venice Film Festival's official selection. It runs as a parallel section to the main competition for the Golden Lion.

Wang Bing is a Chinese director, often referred to as one of the foremost figures in documentary film-making. Wang is the founder of his own production company, Wang Bing Studios, which produces most of his films. His movie on Chinese labour camps, The Ditch, was included in the 2010 Venice Film Festival as the film sorpresa.

Nomadland is a 2020 American drama film written, produced, edited and directed by Chloé Zhao. Based on the 2017 nonfiction book Nomadland: Surviving America in the Twenty-First Century by Jessica Bruder, it stars Frances McDormand as a widow who leaves her life in Nevada to travel around the United States in her van as a nomad. All the Beauty and the Bloodshed is a 2022 American biographical documentary film about photographer, artist, and activist Nan Goldin. The film is produced, co-edited and directed by Laura Poitras, and tackles Goldin's life through her advocacy during the HIV/AIDS crisis in the 80's, and her fight against the Sackler family for their role in the current opioid epidemic in the United States. Poitras, a long-time friend and fan, stated that "Nan's art and vision has inspired my work for years, and has influenced generations of filmmakers."

Lkhagvadulam Purev-Ochir is a Mongolian film director. She is most noted for her 2022 short film Snow in September , which was the winner of the Orizzonti award for Best Short Film at the 79th Venice International Film Festival and the award for Best International Short Film at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival.

<i>Vermiglio</i> (film) 2024 drama film

Vermiglio is a 2024 drama film written, co-produced and directed by Maura Delpero. The film premiered at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, where it won the Grand Jury Prize. It was designated as the Italian entry for Best International Feature Film at the 97th Academy Awards.

<i>Familiar Touch</i> American drama film

Familiar Touch is a 2024 American drama film, written, directed, and produced by Sarah Friedland in her narrative feature directorial debut. It stars Kathleen Chalfant, Carolyn Michelle Smith, Andy McQueen and H. Jon Benjamin. It had its world premiere at the 81st Venice International Film Festival on September 3, 2024, where it won the Lion of the Future, and the Orizzonti section Best Director and Best Actress prizes.

The Best Screenplay Award is an annual award presented for best screenwriting achievements in a feature film in the official competition section of the Venice Film Festival since 1947.
