Susan L. Edwards is an Australian physiologist and academic administrator serving as president of Wright State University since 2020. She was previously a professor of biology and vice provost for faculty affairs at Appalachian State University.

Life

Edwards completed a B.S. in biology and Ph.D. in comparative physiology from Deakin University. [1] She earned a M.S. in neuroscience from the University of Melbourne. [1]

Edwards was an associate professor in the department of physiology and pharmacology in the faculty of medicine, health, and molecular sciences at James Cook University. She was a visiting assistant professor in the department of biology at Georgia Southern University.

In 2007, Edwards left Australia and joined the department of biology at Appalachian State University (ASU). [2] [1] In 2012, she served as its chair. [1] She later served as vice provost for faculty affairs and a professor of biology at ASU. In 2018, she joined Wright State University (WSU) as its executive vice president for academic affairs and provost. Shortly after joining WSU, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. [3] Edwards announced she was in remission in April 2019. [3] She became president on January 1, 2020. [1] She succeeded Cheryl B. Schrader. [3]

Alcock was Special Counsel for Institutional Outreach and Engagement and Professor of Classical Archaeology and Classics at the University of Michigan and became the Interim Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University of Michigan - Flint in July 2018. She is now the inaugural holder of the Barnett Family Professorship of Classical Archaeology at the University of Oklahoma-Norman where she teaches courses in the Department of Classics & Letters.

The Wright State University 2019 faculty strike was an American strike organized by the Wright State chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) in response to employment conditions imposed by the university. The strike began on January 22, 2019, after nearly two years of failed contract negotiations between the AAUP and the Wright State University administration. The strike ended on February 10, 2019. At a length of twenty days, it was one of the longest faculty strikes in the history of U.S. higher education. University President Cheryl B. Schrader received widespread criticism for her handling of the strike and stepped down from her position as a result.
