In early 2011,a new grand jury reported extensive new charges of abusive priests active in the archdiocese. In 2012,a guilty plea by priest Edward Avery and the related trial and conviction of William Lynn and mistrial on charges against James J. Brennan followed from the grand jury's investigations. In 2013,Charles Engelhardt and teacher Bernard Shero were tried,convicted and sentenced to prison. Lynn was the first official to be convicted in the United States of covering up abuses by other priests in his charge and other senior church officials have been extensively criticized for their management of the issue in the archdiocese.

Christine L. Donohue is an associate justice of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. Prior to her election to that court in 2015,she was an elected member of the Superior Court of Pennsylvania,a seat she had held since 2008. She had also performed nearly three decades of service as a trial lawyer and litigator in Allegheny County,Pennsylvania.
Isabel Darlington was an American lawyer and the first woman to gain admittance to the bar and practice law in Chester County,Pennsylvania. Specializing in estate and business law,Darlington handled the legal affairs of industrialist Pierre S. du Pont,including his purchase of Longwood Gardens in 1906. She was the sole woman practicing law in Chester County for 45 years. A native of West Chester and alumna of Wellesley College and the University of Pennsylvania Law School,Darlington was the daughter of Congressman Smedley Darlington and the aunt of General Smedley Butler.
Brenda A. Allen is an American psychologist,educator,and academic administrator who has served as the 14th president of Lincoln University,a historically black university in Oxford,Pennsylvania,since July 2017. She is the second woman to serve as Lincoln University's president after Niara Sudarkasa. Allen has prioritized strengthening Lincoln's academic quality and campus infrastructure.
