The Bloc Québécois is a federal political party in Canada devoted to Quebec nationalism and the promotion of Quebec sovereignty. The Bloc was formed by Members of Parliament (MPs) who defected from the federal Progressive Conservative Party and Liberal Party during the collapse of the Meech Lake Accord. Founder Lucien Bouchard had been a cabinet minister in the federal Progressive Conservative government of Brian Mulroney.

She served as an advisor to then opposition leader Stephen Harper during the 2006 election,which the Conservative Party won. After the election,she was named to the cabinet position Leader of the Government in the Senate. On July 4,2013,LeBreton announced she would not continue in the position as of the next cabinet shuffle,which occurred later that summer. She retired from the Senate upon reaching her 75th birthday on July 4,2015.

In 2019,he left the Conservative Senate caucus to sit with the Canadian Senators Group,and left the Conservative party in 2022 shortly after Pierre Poilievre was elected as leader.
