Suzanne Jill Levine [1] is an American writer,poet, [2] literary translator and scholar. [3]
Levine was born in New York City where she studied piano at Juilliard and went to Music &Art High School.
She earned a BA at Vassar College in 1967, [1] an MA at Columbia University in 1969, [1] [2] and a PhD at New York University in 1977. [1] [4] A scholar of Latin American literature,her books include one of the first studies of Gabriel García Márquez's One Hundred Years of Solitude and Adolfo Bioy Casares,both published in Spanish. She is also a leading specialist in Translation Studies and Comparative Literature. Her 1991 book,The Subversive Scribe, was influential on the development of translation theory in the United States and elsewhere.[ citation needed ] She has written two poetry chapbooks and hundreds of essays in major anthologies and journals. She is a translator of a range of writers including Silvina Ocampo,Clarice Lispector,Cecilia Vicuña,Jorge Luis Borges,Manuel Puig,Adolfo Bioy Casares,Carlos Fuentes,JoséDonoso,Julio Cortázar and Guillermo Cabrera Infante. Levine is an honorary member of IAPTI. [6] She has been recipient of numerous grants and awards from the National Endowment of the Arts (NEA) and for the Humanities (NEH).

He lived most of his life in Chile,although he spent many years in self-imposed exile in Mexico,the United States and Spain. Hell Has No Limits is a 1966 novel written by Chilean JoséDonoso. The novel is set south of the Chilean capital,Santiago,in a small town near the regional center of Talca. It tells the story of a bordello,and details the prostitutes' way of life. The main character is Manuela,the transgender woman who owns the bordello. A number of other memorable characters are introduced. The novel was well received,and Donoso himself considered it his best work:"the most perfect,with fewest errors,the most complete".

Mundo Nuevo was an influential Spanish-language periodical,being a monthly revista de cultura dedicated to new Latin American literature. Sponsored by the Ford Foundation,the magazine was founded by Emir Rodríguez Monegal in Paris,France,in 1966 and distributed worldwide. Monegal edited it until 1968 and resigned after a five-part installation in the New York Times that revealed the Congress for Cultural Freedom,a source of funding for the magazine,was a front for the CIA. In fact,it was started as a successor of another Spanish language magazine of the Congress,namely Cuadernos. Mundo Nuevo stopped in 1971 after 58 issues.
