Sweat is a 2020 drama film written and directed by Magnus von Horn. It stars Magdalena Kolesnik, Julian Swiezewski, Aleksandra Konieczna and Zbigniew Zamachowski.

The film was set to have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2020, but the festival was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. [3] In July 2020, it was announced Gutek Film, TriArt and Mubi had acquired distribution rights to the film in Poland, Sweden and the United States, respectively. [4] [5] Sweat was released in Sweden on 12 March 2021 and in Poland on 18 June 2021. [6] [7]
Sweat holds a 98% approval rating on review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, based on 51 reviews, with an average rating of 7.4/10. The site's critical consensus reads, "Well-acted and appropriately beautiful, Sweat takes a thoughtful, empathetic look at social media fame." [8] The film won the Gold Hugo at the Chicago International Film Festival. [9]
In a review of the film, Giuseppe Sedia wrote for Kino Mania: "While there is no ground to label Sweat as a sophomore slump, von Horn could have gone over the argument that social influencers can have a very complex inner life just like anybody else". He also praised the performance of Zbigniew Zamachowski "who seems to come out straight from an episode of Kieślowski's Dekalog ". [10]

Magnus von Horn,, is a Swedish-Polish film director and screenwriter. He graduated from the National Film School in Łódź in 2013. A few months after he arrived in Poland he was brutally robbed, which resulted in him becoming interested in violent people. His first film was a short documentary about a young Polish criminal. His 2011 short film Without Snow was nominated for the Guldbagge Award for Best Short Film. His debut feature, The Here After, premiered in the Directors' Fortnight of the 2015 Cannes Film Festival.

The Teacher or The Teach is a Polish television crime drama series, which began screening from 2 October 2016. It stars Maciej Stuhr as Paweł, a high school teacher, who investigates criminal cases. The Zbigniew Cybulski Award is a Polish annual film award given to best young Polish actors. It was established in 1969 on the initiative of Wiesława Czapińska and named to commemorate Zbigniew Cybulski who is widely considered one of the greatest Polish actors of the second half of the 20th century. It is among the most prominent awards in Polish cinema and the past winners include some of the most popular and critically acclaimed Polish actors. The Girl with the Needle is a 2024 crime drama film directed by Magnus von Horn, from a screenplay written by von Horn and Line Langebek. It is very loosely based on the true story of Danish serial killer Dagmar Overbye, who helped impoverished women kill their unwanted children and was first sentenced to death in 1921, but it was later changed into a lifetime in prison.
The new film Sweat has its Swedish premiere on 12 March.
