A bar mitzvah (masc.), or bat mitzvah (fem.) is a coming of age ritual in Judaism. According to Jewish law, before children reach a certain age, the parents are responsible for their child's actions. Once Jewish children reach that age, they are said to "become" b'nai mitzvah, at which point they begin to be held accountable for their own actions. Traditionally, the father of a bar or bat mitzvah offers thanks to God that he is no longer punished for his child's sins.

Sixteen Candles is a 1984 American coming-of-age teen comedy film starring Molly Ringwald, Michael Schoeffling, and Anthony Michael Hall. Written and directed by John Hughes in his directorial debut, it was the first in a string of films Hughes would direct, centering on teenage life. My Super Sweet 16 is an American reality television series documenting the lives of teenagers, usually in the United States, Canada and United Kingdom, generally with wealthy parents who throw lavish, excessive and expensive coming-of-age celebrations. Parties include the quinceañera, the sweet 16, and other birthdays including a My Super Sweet 21 and My Super Swag 18. The show aired on MTV from January 18, 2005, to September 11, 2017. The opening theme is "Sweet Sixteen" sung by Hilary Duff.

Quinceañera is a 2006 American independent drama film written and directed by Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland. Super Sweet 16: The Movie is a television film based on the series My Super Sweet 16. It stars teen popstars Aly & AJ, R&B & Soul star Paula DeAnda and features performances by Hellogoodbye and Pretty Ricky. The film stars Amanda Michalka and Regine Nehy. The film premiered on MTV on July 8, 2007, and the DVD was released on July 10, 2007, the same date that Aly & AJ's third studio album Insomniatic was released as well as DeAnda's Easy.
The debut is a traditional Filipino coming-of-age celebration which celebrates a young woman's 18th birthday, the age of maturity in the Philippines. Although also reaching legal maturity at 18, a Filipino man may mark his own debut on his 21st birthday, albeit with less formal celebrations or none at all.

Father–daughter dances are common at wedding receptions in the United States although not all weddings have a father–daughter dance. In situations where a daughter's father is not available, he may be substituted with a man of an older generation, such as an uncle or the father of a close friend. A common trend in 2018 at wedding receptions is to only have a formal first dance for the wedding couple and party songs, forgoing the father–daughter dance. My Super Psycho Sweet 16 is a 2009 American made-for-TV slasher film, based on the MTV show, My Super Sweet 16. The film follows two girls: outcast Skye Rotter, and the spoiled Madison Penrose who hosts her sweet sixteen at an abandoned roller skating rink, where a masked killer begins murdering the party patrons.
My Super Psycho Sweet 16 is an American slasher film franchise that comprises three films, and was produced by MTV. Each film follows Skye Rotter, a teenaged outcast, and her friends who are stalked and murdered by a psychopath during a sweet sixteen birthday party.
