16 (sixteen) is the natural number following 15 and preceding 17.
16 is the ninth composite number, and a square number, being 4 2 = 4 × 4. It is the smallest number with exactly five divisors, its proper divisors being 1, 2, 4 and 8.
16 is the first non-unitary fourth-power prime of the form p4
The aliquot sum of a 2-power (2n) is always one less than the 2-power itself therefore the aliquot sum of 16 is 15, within an aliquot sequence of four composite members (16,15,9,4,3,1,0) to the Prime in the 3-aliquot tree.
In English speech, the numbers 16 and 60 are sometimes confused, as they sound very similar.
Sixteen is the fourth power of two. For this reason, 16 was used in weighing light objects in several cultures. The British have 16 ounces in one pound; the Chinese used to have 16 liangs in one jin. In old days[ vague ], weighing was done with a beam balance to make equal splits. It would be easier to split a heap of grains into sixteen equal parts through successive divisions than to split into ten parts. Chinese Taoists did finger computation on the trigrams and hexagrams by counting the finger tips and joints of the fingers with the tip of the thumb. Each hand can count up to 16 in such manner. The Chinese abacus uses two upper beads to represent the 5s and 5 lower beads to represent the 1s, the 7 beads can represent a hexadecimal digit from 0 to 15 in each column.

Many leagues and tournaments have 16 teams or individual participants, for example:
In both the NBA and NHL, 16 teams qualify for the respective league playoffs; it is also the number of wins needed to win the title (both leagues have four playoff rounds, with four wins in seven games needed to win each round).
From 1978 to 2020, the NFL operated with 16 games in the regular season.
In AFL Women's, the top-level league of women's Australian rules football, each team has 16 players on the field at any given time (as opposed to the 18 of almost all other competitions in the sport, most notably the parent Australian Football League for men).
Amicable numbers are two different natural numbers related in such a way that the sum of the proper divisors of each is equal to the other number. That is, s(a)=b and s(b)=a, where s(n)=σ(n)-n is equal to the sum of positive divisors of n except n itself (see also divisor function).
42 (forty-two) is the natural number that follows 41 and precedes 43.
10 (ten) is the even natural number following 9 and preceding 11. Ten is the base of the decimal numeral system, the most common system of denoting numbers in both spoken and written language.
15 (fifteen) is the natural number following 14 and preceding 16.
20 is the natural number following 19 and preceding 21. A group of twenty units may also be referred to as a score.
17 (seventeen) is the natural number following 16 and preceding 18. It is a prime number.
21 (twenty-one) is the natural number following 20 and preceding 22.
33 (thirty-three) is the natural number following 32 and preceding 34.
45 (forty-five) is the natural number following 44 and preceding 46.
90 (ninety) is the natural number following 89 and preceding 91.
25 (twenty-five) is the natural number following 24 and preceding 26.
27 is the natural number following 26 and preceding 28.
A power of two is a number of the form 2n where n is an integer, that is, the result of exponentiation with number two as the base and integer n as the exponent. If n is negative, 2n is called an negative power of two or inverse power of two.
35 (thirty-five) is the natural number following 34 and preceding 36.
32 (thirty-two) is the natural number following 31 and preceding 33.
64 (sixty-four) is the natural number following 63 and preceding 65.
216 is the natural number following 215 and preceding 217. It is a cube, and is often called Plato's number, although it is not certain that this is the number intended by Plato.
65535 is the integer after 65534 and before 65536.
240 is the natural number following 239 and preceding 241.
5 (five) is a number, numeral and digit. It is the natural number, and cardinal number, following 4 and preceding 6, and is a prime number. It has garnered attention throughout history in part because distal extremities in humans typically contain five digits.
