The medals were presented by Robert Smith, Baron Smith of Kelvin, Chairman of Glasgow 2014 and the quaichs were presented by Kenn Banks, President of the Commonwealth Games Association of Anguilla.

The women's 400 metre individual medley event at the 2014 Commonwealth Games as part of the swimming programme took place on 24 July at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre in Glasgow, Scotland. Defending champion Hannah Miley retained her title, breaking her own Commonwealth Games record twice. Aimee Willmott took second and bronze was won by Australian Keryn McMaster.

Mackenzie James Horton is an Australian retired freestyle swimmer. He is an Olympic gold medallist, World Championships gold medallist, and 4-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist. At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, he took the gold in the 400m freestyle, and became the first male swimmer from the state of Victoria to win an Olympic swimming gold in the Games' history.
