The men's 200 metre butterfly event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games was held on 31 July at the Sandwell Aquatics Centre. The event was won by New Zealand's Lewis Clareburt, defeating South Africa's Chad le Clos, the event's reigning Commonwealth champion. [1]

Max Robert Litchfield is a British competitive swimmer who represented Great Britain in the 2016 Olympics, and the LEN European Aquatics Championships. At the 2018 Commonwealth Games and the 2019 World Aquatics Championships, he won bronze medals in the men's 400 m individual medley. He swam in the 2020 International Swim League, competing for the New York Breakers. He is coached by Gary Edward Hollywood at Capital Swim Club, Wellington.

Tatjana Schoenmaker is a South African swimmer specialising in breaststroke events. She is the world record holder in the long course 200-metre breaststroke and the African record holder in the long course and short course 100-metre breaststroke as well as the short course 200-metre breaststroke. Lara van Niekerk is a South African competitive swimmer. She is the current African, Commonwealth, and South African record holder in the long course 50-metre breaststroke and the African and South African record holder in the short course 50-metre breaststroke. She won gold medals in the 50-metre breaststroke at the 2018 African Swimming Championships and the 2022 Commonwealth Games as well as a silver medal at the 2022 World Short Course Championships and the bronze medal at the 2022 World Aquatics Championships in the same event. In the 100-metre breaststroke, she won gold medals at the 2018 African Swimming Championships and the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The men's 400 metre individual medley event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games was held on 30 July at the Sandwell Aquatics Centre. New Zealand's Lewis Clareburt won the event, from Australia's Brendon Smith and Scotland's Duncan Scott, setting a new Commonwealth record, Oceanian record, and New Zealand record. He also became the first New Zealand swimmer in 16 years since Moss Burmester did in 2006 to claim a Commonwealth gold medal.
